I think we should make the fence bigger, or put a 2 way mirror behind the station end goal, so they could see the game, but we don't have to look at them

I know its a bit of a tradition, and when a few walk onto the pitch, it then becomes a free for all for fear of missing out, even though you don't see a great deal from the pitch.
Whatever happens, just think how nice it would be for players mainly Luke to be given the ovation the little guy so deserves from in front of the RIVERSIDE!!!!!!!!!!!
come on lets heed laptops request.

I don't think anyone has said they will ignore laptop because ordinary people can never win an argument like this - but I am still scratching my head about a statement being made that as a matter of fact there was an assault on a Barnet player and - seemingly - using that as part justification.
To me the atmosphere at the end of the Barnet game was no less amicable than the end of the Morecambe - indeed more so - after a competitive game which was important to both clubs the two sets of fans applauded each other in scenes that were so extraordinary comment was made on national radio.
So yes, do as the police tell you to do, BUT don't let laptop and his colleagues put an ENTIRELY inaccurate spin on the events of a quite extraordinary day.

The comment about the fans applauding each other was also made on TV and in at least one national newspaper. It was heralded as one of the sporting gestures of the season, and it wouldn't have happened if we hadn't have gone on the pitch. Ignore laptop, if Scun thorpe go up on Saturday we can go on the pitch and applaud the Scunnie fans in the Station End.

I hear what Laptop is saying, but I think the expression "pitch invasion" is a bit of a misrepresentation of the actions of the fans. Nobody wants to see a reckless and provocative occupation of the pitch by supporters who are trying to disrupt proceedings, breach safety regulations or antagonise the opposition and officials. However, the gesture made by us both at Morecambe, and at the Barnet game was good-natured, warm and jubilant. In fact, I recall the Stewards being appreciative and the Local Police Inspector passing complimentary comments on how well the fans conducted themselves. Most of us went to the opposition fans, shook hands, applauded and shared a common expression of approval. Approval for the fact that they, like us had spent a season giving the club we love our heartfelt support. As for the "assault", I can't pass judgement, nor condone the stupidity of the idiot concerned, but the player in question was guilty of a deliberate act of provocation and should have been brought to account for it - maybe that had some bearing on the way it was handled? I will take my lead on the day, from the Stewards and the local constabulary - if it is obvious that we are not wanted on the pitch, so be it. I just hope we get a proper opportunity to say thanks and goodbye to Luke -carrying him off the pitch in the way we were able to with Sir Mickey at St James's would be wonderful. Lets hope that common sense and reason prevail

As i said earlier i can't order people to stay off the pitch i can only suggest it. I just think that by doing this BOTH sets of players can go to their respective supporters to show their appreciation at the final whistle, and if sc***horpe do have something to celebrate they can do it at the final whistle . With regard to the assault, there was an assault on a barnet player, a person was arrested and found guilty by the court, and no for some reason he didn't get a banning order but i believe has been banned by the club. This assault was witnessed by one of the top blokes from the conference who wasn't too impressed. Yes i accept that the huge majority behaved, i just don't want something like that to happen again

We were asked to stay off the pitch last week against Bristol Rovers and everybody did except one idiot who made a complete prat of himself LOL. It is better for everyone if we all stay in the stands so that both sets of players can come out at the end.

if the football league inspectors turn up like they can do at any time... or the ref mentions it in his report.. or its seen on sky then Shrewsbury Town Football Club get it in the neck for failure to control fans what IS the point of running on the pitch anyway..? dont see the point myself At meaningless (for us) games like Saturday none really-but for big games like Exeter or Barnet its a chance to enjoy the atmosphere with the players, to celebrate in a traditional style. Top flight football may be devoid of passion and commitment, but at least our level has some left for now! I think all true football fans can understand the unbridal joy that comes from staying/going up-hence the pitch invasion. I'm still angry at the club/police for being too over zealous with the policing at the sc***horpe & carlisle games in 02/03. One of the few clubs to go down without a pitch invasion (the cops wven forced people out of the ground/club carpark using attack dogs-idiots the lot of them. Myself & 3 friends were moved on & threatend with arrest around 11pm for simply standing outside of the club office and being to emotional to want to leave after a very painful night!!!) Even Morecombe was a chance to thank the players and rival fans for a first rate game & day out! As for Saturday if Scunny go up-let them on. I'll be in the pub 5 minutes after the whistle goes so I won't mind to much. The w'ont even be used until July so who cares?

You will be ignoring police advice, so won't mind getting arrested, possibly fined and banned from attending matches. + a possible fine for the club etc. no one was bothered about all this last year tho where they?!

The Scunny fans won't be on the pitch as they have a huge fence in front of them. The fence didn't stop the Northampton fans in 92/93 if I remember correctly. I have always enjoyed pitch invasions and see it as a great way to celebrate with opposition fans. I personally believe that the celebrations in the Barnet and Morcambe matches last season were an excellent advert for football. However, in this case I shall be respecting the wishes of police. If Scuunthorpe gain promotion then I shall enjoy joining in their celebrations from the terrace.

Yeah, but people had a lot more energy back then. Shame our shower of sh*t didn't have any that day. 2-0 up at half time and lost three 3-2 which denied us a play off place and kept them lot up if memory serves me correct. Pitch invasions are ok in the right circumstances but not after the p*ss poor seasons we've just had to suffer. The Barnet game justified a pitch invasion because of the emotion of just quailfying for the the play off final but this time we've got nothing to get emotional about.

I think the reason is obvious
the police do not want both sets of fans on the pitch
the police wont have many numbers so will focus on keeping scunny fans in the pen, but are not sure they can manage this (after all once 20 or so are on they usually give up)
ie the plea for town fans to remain off the pitch
