I had a lovely experience, recently. Went into a local shop at night- greeted by a big, tall lad- didn't recognise him, but he said,"Hello, Mrs Griffiths! Don't you know me?" After a bit, it turned out his name was Paul, and I'd taught him at the last school I'd worked full-time at. I wasn't his class teacher- but I did a little after-school guitar club for the kids. I only taught them a few basic chords- very elementary stuff. (I'm still a "hack guitarist" really!) He went on to say, "You were the only teacher that ever taught me anything!" (not true- but he struggled with academic stuff) Well- he went on to tell me that he went on to study guitar at a higher level. He got on to a Prince's trust scheme- and that he was due to give a concert at the Albert Hall. I didn't have time to ask whether it was classical guitar or what- but I take it he did both, as he's working as a session guitarist, too. It just brought it home to me what the least bit of encouragement can do for kids. You might think it's nothing much at the time- but from little acorns, big oaks can grow, as they say!!

Teachers can have a massively positive impact on kids, and society in general.
A teacher at a secondary school may impact the lives of over 1,000 kids a year, that's something pretty amazing if they're a good un.

In a lot of cases, teachers are the only sensible adults some kids come into contact with!!
