If you're going to use anti-social texting, please move your keyboard slightly to the left so you type on the correct keys. ;D

In the late 1970s, I listened to the radio shows. Since then, I have read the books, seen the stage show (and drank a pan-galactic gargleblaster in the interval), bought the albums, watched the TV show and purchased the videos. Today, I saw the film. It was different.
Then again, I expected it to be different. The special effects were better, as expected, than on TV (though not as good as on radio) and the plot had changed rather dramatically. It was nice to see the vogans having a bigger role, but not sure who that woman was who seemed to be leading them - a bit confused there I must admit. The part of the Book was very much as it has been in all its incarnations.
Some of the jokes had been altered to make them unfunny (presumably to make the dialogue sound more modern) and there were some new jokes, one of which made me laugh out loud. I didn't like the idea of Zaphod's heads being one under the other, I did like the new Arthur and Trillian, but I thought Ford didn't quite have that detached zany feel of previous versions. The answer was still 42. And it set up a Restaurant at the End of the Universe sequel.
The idea of a So Long and Thanks for all the Fish song was funny; the song itself was worse than Vogan poetry. Warning, don't leave when the end credits come on, despite them playing the song again, because half way through we get a bit more from the Book.
Overall, I found it amusing. Some of it was as good as the other versions, some bits better, some bits worse, but in total it was enjoyable. And watch out for a cameo appearance by the original Marvin from the TV series.

Nowt wrong with my poetry O Feedled Gruntbuggly, ? ... Thy nacturations are to me! As plurdled gabbleblochits on a lurgid bee. Groop, I emplore thee, my foonting turlingdromes. And hooptiously drangle me with crinkly bindlewurdles or I will rend thee in gabberwarts with my burglecruncheon, See if I don't!

And watch out for a cameo appearance by the original Marvin from the TV series. also Douglas Adams mum drinking tea outside the cafe during the Vogon announcement The original Arthur as the Magrathean warning system and in the planet factory one planet has Adams profile The woman with the Vogons appeared to be Zaphods deputy president of the universe I loved the film (seen it twice already and also the TV series on DVD this week) a few bits from the book and TV series i'd have liked in there but suitably impressed with the additions

Sorry, thought it was absolute bobbins. 32, but too young to really remember owt about the telly programme other than I thought it bobbins too. Desperately wanted to enjoy the film due to writer and cast, but was insanely bored after about 15 minutes.
If it had been on the telly, I'd have turned it off after twenty and picked up a book. If you're an anal 17 year old with no social skills and a love of Red Dwarf then it'll probably get your juices flowing, but otherwise...dull. Had it been made when DA intended then it would have probably stood up better, but being made now, it struck me as some sort of bad school play. Soz.

Ha-Ha! Ant, I'm a massive cinema fan and enjoy a good debate about the merits of various pics, but I really struggled with HG2G - and went in a chipper mood. How's the film centre in the middle of town getting on - any good? Had a decent programme when I was last up and offered some good stuff that the multiplex wasn't interested in... Anyhow, you think the Bridge is the best ground in the Prem, so clearly know nowt about owt...

Ooooh, you can tell Chelsea have just won their first league title for 50-years

I'm actually ignoring the fact that Chelsea have won the league - not read the reports, skipped the news etc. My Man City mate did the same when United won the Champions League and reckons he didn't feel a thing!
Soz, but I just thought it was very, very dated in terms of the humour etc. Like I say, I wanted to enjoy it because I like just about everyone involved in it; I just couldn't. A few of the people in when I saw it were cracking up, so it's obviously just a case of personal taste, but I just had visions of computer club kids quoting it to one another in the playground or something. Like I say, if it had been made pre-Red Dwarf as intended, it might have seemed a bit fresher.

Peter, I love the fact that you are posting on this thread. You are the original and irreplacable voice of the Guide - born in Wem too Regarding the film, all the reviews I've read say it's rubbish . However, as I don't have the sophisticated sense of humour of metropolitan film critics, I'm sure I'll love it. PS. Don't miss new installments on Radio 4 tomorrow at 18.30.

Enjoyed the film, but let down by it spiralling off from the book on such a tangent.
Never should have gone in nerd mode! Good enough on its own mind, and enjoyed the cameos...
