...so if anyone's got any spare cash we can turn the Britannia into a shrine to the Play-off Final 2004 Statement from the official Stoke City website: Stoke City Chairman Gunnar flór Gíslason has confirmed that Stoke Holding S.A., the major shareholder in Stoke City Football Club, have today informed the club that they are putting their financial interest in the club up for sale. The Icelandic-based consortium has held a controlling 60 per cent ownership of the club since November 1999. Says the chairman: "Stoke Holding have indicated that potential buyers must exhibit the financial strength to be able to continue to improve the club as well as making a financially satisfying offer to Stoke Holding. "The team manager, Tony Pulis, will continue to have the full support of the club's Board of Directors. The club will continue to be run in a responsible and professional manner and Stoke Holding will continue to financially support the club until a sale has been completed, a process which will take a number of months and even go beyond the end of next season."

I think this will go down well with Stoke fans...get the impression they haven't been too impressed with their board of late...

Is Peter Coates' golden share is still a fly in the ointment. The Icelandics' passing will not be mourned.

I reckon Pulis will have the biggest smile in the Potteries tonight.
Obviously the grass isn't always greener... but, like you say, most Stoke fans won't be devastated by the news.
The trouble is the club are about £8 million in debt I believe and don't own the stadium.
However, there's undoubted potential at the club for someone to turn around.
