The following was taken from the Reading board and has to be the oddest stat thought up!
Read and weep Ghostie!
"With 4 league games left it seems we have 3 players with a pretty good chance of being ever presents in the league this season, (Hahnemann, Shorey and Ingamarsson all having made 42 league starts so far, and frankly should be automatic choices for the remaining games, Ivar's recent strop apart!) .
Pretty mundane stuff so far I hear you say! Well get a load of this ....
The last time we had 3 players ever present for a league season was in 85/6, with Senior, Westwood and Wood all making 46 starts ..... in a Royals team that won promotion.
So what? Well, the last time before that that we had 3 players ever present in a league season was 78/9, with Death, Hicks and White being ever present ..... in a Royals team that won promotion.
Oh yes, mere coincidence of course ...... except that the last time before THAT that we had 3 ever presents in the league was back in 25/6, with Braithewaite, Duckworth and Messer all making 42 starts ...... IN A READING TEAM THAT WON PROMOTION!!!!!
Mr Coppell - if you are reading this - there is clearly a surefire guaranteed way of getting to the Premiership this season! Simply make sure you select Hahnemann, Shorey and Ingamarsson in the next 4 starting lineups, and we will sail through serenely to the promised land!!!!!
I kid you not!
Of course I'm going to spoil things a little by noting we had 4 ever presents in 24/5 and didn't go up, but seeing as we won't have 4 ever presents THIS season, who gives a fukc!
Whilst we don't always need 3 ever presents in the side to get promotion, we always get promotion with 3 ever presents in the side! (That does actually make sense if you read it carefully!)
Oh .... and one last snippet for those of you still sad enough to be reading this, in each of the previous 3 occasions we won promotion with 3 ever presents, we had a goalie and a central defender making maximum apps, (Westwood/Death/Duckworth = goalies, Wood/Hicks/Messer = central defenders). "
