Those that know me know i'm a ref so i'm biased BUT ! I despair at the punishments (deterrents ?) handed out by UEFA, FIFA, and the FA. Player and Club power (£) has completely taken over the modern game, authorities are now scared to take realistic measures. Can you imagine a 5 year ban being dished out nowadays (Liverpool), no it will not happen because of a succession of Rsoles running the governing bodies who are sycophantic to the extreme. Clive Woodward has expressed an interest in joining the Soccer side of football, i only hope he brings some discipline with him, we need it both off and espeicially on the field. 2 Games behind closed doors a fine of 20p and a boiled sweet is my guess.....lets go forwards not backwards.

A young New Zealand (or Aussie) rugby league player got a 30 (yes thirty) year ban last week for assaulting a touch judge, a Scottish golfer got a life ban for cheating a few years back. You are quite right, penalties handed out in the football world are far too lenient in the majority of cases, hit a few hard the rest will soon get the message. The £ rules or in this case the £M. Look at the fines handed out in Spain to the clubs with the racist chanting, was it £340, as you say the people running the game have to get a lot tougher. Perhaps we should ask Chris Broad to have a word in their ear.

Does this thread relate to the trouble in europe last night? i heard someone got hit with a flare ( not taking the p**s). Yes Windsor I think your right. The football bodies seem to have no bottle or backbone, except when it comes to England, when the european assocs seem far more prepared to be tough. If thats not what the thread is about then
