I'm going to have to learn how to do this!
It's one area where I haven't updated my knowledge.
That course I went on this evening, about Autism, was great. Fascinating stuff- but it must be terrible for the kids who are afflicted with it- and their families
The woman who ran the course was no youngster- she'd had 30 years in the job- but she could handle a powerpoint presentation. (Had a bit if technical trouble at first, though!)
I'm ashamed to say that when I did an in-service course about Dyslexia- I used a flip chart!!!!!!

Wiggy, if its any consolation, i am a firm believer that its not how you teach, its what you teach. If what you are saying is interesting and informative people will pay attention and learn if you use a sheet of slate and a piece of chalk.

My wife has managed a pre-school for nearly 30 years, when she started it was rare to have an autistic child, now there are 2 or 3 in every session.
It's like a hidden epidemic.

Nothing wrong with using a flip chart or overhead sheets.
However powerpoint is an excellent tool as long as you don't make the presentation too complicated. Make sure you stay away from flashing and moving bits of text/pictures as they'll take the audiences attention away from what your actually talking about

Give me a flipchart anytime. and overhead transparencies.
more interactive, can be used by the delegates for syndicate work, and used to give me a well earned break!!

Wiggy - you may be interested to know that in our school in Oldham, we have a base for pupils with Complex Communication dificulties. This includes pupils with autistic spectrum conditions. We have pupils with autism, aspergers and speech and language problems. They are fully integrated into the school system, each pupil gets 1 to 1 support and many of them cope very well.
