Was anyone surprised Tolley started this game? I felt Edwards was very unlucky to be moved out of the centre, after Saturday's game.
As for Tolley's performance tonight - i t was non-existent. Won very few tackles and seemed, once again, to be chasing shadows. It really was like having a big hole in midfield - Cheltenham were simply walking through the centre. Surely someone else - Edwards, Streety or Sedge - is more worthy of his place.
Ashton, whilst not hitting the heights of last week, was once again the pick of the midfield.
We also looked much better when Sam came on.

Tolley could have walked in the first half
That tackle was so high he was in danger of piercing the guys nipple
Aiston didn't change much because we had lost our shape totally by then
We are missing Sedge in Midfield
when everyone is fit I think our best midfield will be
Edwards, Ashton, Smith, Aiston
Now that would like a tackle and actually create something

Agreed, TBH, if the defence actually brought the midfield into play, and stopped trying to cut them out.

Thought after his first two touches (gave the ball away first one and ran over the ball second one)
Sam did at least give us the option of some with and pace down one flank, which in turn made us slightly less predictable.
He certanly had a couple of runs, and least got forward (unlike the man on the offer flank) to support the forwards.

Sam stretched the game and made an impact without actually doing that much.
I like the idea of him starting on the bench away from home and coming on for the last half hour.

I just want Shrewsbury managers to end their love affair with Tolley. It seems like he is an automatic choice no matter what. Gary a risk by tampering with the midfield, pushing our best central midfielder onto the wing and dropping our most attacking one. Tolley should count himself lucky to even be included on the bench with his form at the moment. How many more times do we have to go away from home and witness opponents running riot in the middle of the park?

What midfield?!! The only ray of light in that department was Mr Ashton. The only player to tackle, try and keep the ball on the ground & run with it, and looked for the pass. He soon reverted to the hoofball crap when it was clear no one else was going to join in.
Sheron offers nothing out wide. No attacking presence. No cover for the right backs maurading runs upfield. Tolley - awful. Absolutely bloody terrible. No tackles (save for the assualt), no passing, no heading, poor set pieces and a woeful shot in the first half. Street, O'connor and Sedge must be fuming to loose out to him. Ashton. The one shining light. Edwards. Lost out wide. Probably due to our inability to get the ball and pass it.
Sams introduction was nothing more than a change in personnel, and not tactics. No change in the style of play left him pretty redundant.
A woeful performance. Not surprised that our away record is so bad if thats what you have had to endure this season. Only Ashton & Tinno (my MOM) GP's words in the week to heart.

Tolley has been woeful in every game I've seen this season, and quite frankly Id' be happy if he's released at end of season. If Chester still want to pay £5k for him ,I'd grab the money quick.
He chases shadows all game, take 3 touches to get the ball under control, and rarely makes an incisive pass. His career is going into reverse unless he sorts himself out.

Tolley never seems to do anything. It has been said on here before that he just runs arounf the pitch looking busy and commited nut he doesnt actually do anything. Wouldnt be to bothered to see him leave at the end of the season

Tolley has been poor since the wins against Kiddy and Chester, and was totally anonymous on Friday night which is very dissapointing given his initial improvement in form when GP came to the club.

Apart from Oxford you could substitute the word team for Tolley in the above statement - I have seen better midfield players in this league but I dont believe there is a better one currently at our club- when there is then perhaps the manager will drop him.
