The full time whistle blew and Shrewsbury were in possession. Jeremy Gill, their number 15, picked the ball up around the edge of their penalty area and drop kicked it straight at the Shrewsbury fans behind the goal. He looked at us, and booted the ball at us. Suffice to say the crowd around the place he had kicked it were incensed, and we reported it to the stewards there, who did see it. Their kit man or whoever came over to try and get the ball but by there was no chance of them having it back so he shouted "**** Off" at the crowd, and there were children who heard him say it, and then stomped off across the pitch I wonder what the lines of complaint are for this issue? We told the stewards, but I will contact STFC on monday and see if there is any line of complaint we can bring via them, if not we will write to Cheltenham and also report it to the local police. Blatant incitement of a football crowd This is the man: www.cheltenhamtownfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/Squad/Profiles/0,,10434~9439,00.html Did anyone else witness this and what were your views on what happened?

To be fair Dave, he came over to get the ball, and recieved a fair bit of abuse. He hung about waiting to get it back and quite rightly (he probably didnt see Gills actions) got quite p**sed off when someone in the crowd pinched the ball and the rest of the crowd were taughnting him.

That is true Rob
But as a club official there are things you do and things you don't do

Was there a reason why he even kicked the ball into the fans?

Indeed Dave and there is probably no excuse.
However all he was doing was coming over to fetch the match ball.
He probably didnt know what Gill had done.
As such I can see why he was p**sed off with people shouting abuse at him and the crowd singing stuff at him....

Best to keep the ball as evidence anyhows int it? They would have only 'misplaced' it anyhows once the rossers started sniffing about the place... ;D

One of the things about football fans that puzzles me is that we spend 90 minutes abusing opposition players but then get all sensitive and outraged if they react.

Dave, there's reacting (i.e. swearing, making gestures) then there is pelting a football into a crowd of people including kids etc. Last night was one of the worst things I've seen at a football game.

Have some sympathy with that view normally Dave but the ball was deliberately kicked very hard at the crowd if it had hit a child old person in the face it would have been a knockout blow It wasnt just petulance it was violence

OK. I thought from the description the guy had lobbed the ball into the crowd. If he fired it in with intent, then he's out of order.

I'm not aware of any specific verbal abuse he to provoke this. (most was aimed at the inept town players :-( ) No accident, he knew what he was doing. A fine end to a truely forgettable town 'performance'.
