Gutted yes but thats a fairly mature response too I for one think he desreves a new deal and however good Joe is (and we have yet to discover that ,despite a very good debut )we need another top notch keeper to even think about a play off place next year .People do lose form and get injured

It's all about bargaining power now.
Howie will not get such a good offer, so he has to decide whether to stay or see if he can get more somewhere else. GP is in a much stronger position with Joe in the first team

As Joe's on only around 6 grand a year according to that Zoo article, it seems a shrewd financial measure.

Sometimes people don't respond well to trying to be manipulated into taking pay cuts.....
Let's hope that if this is "mind games" it doesn't backfire.....

Scott's a clever bloke, I'm sure he was always aware that if he got offered a new deal it wasn't going to pay as well as his current one.

I know it must be largely guesswork but out of interest whats the kind of money a player like Howie would be on?

No, seriously, though- it was a mature response and it seems typical of the mature and intelligent man that he is. I HOPE that it's not just a question of cutting costs because of the new ground. I just think Howie's too valuable to lose.

Not necessarily because of the new ground, but GP will need to bring new players in, and increase the size of the squad given the transfer window. So he will be looking to save on the current high earners, and Scott must be one of the highest. Not sure what is going to happen to Darby

On the subject of cash though, would you have swopped Howie for Carts and Bavo because financially, that's probably about right? I certainly would have.

I hear a whisper that Howie has given notice on his rented accommodation in Wellington?

I hear a whisper that Howie has given notice on his rented accommodation in Wellington? Oh, dear! This sounds like someone in the know!! I often wonder about these "guests"!!!!!!!!! Scott's neighbour? Another player? This much I do know to be true- the rented house in Wellington. That's why I feel uneasy. I have noted, today, that our goal difference is better than one or two above us- and only one short of one or two quite a few places ahead of us. The evidence speaks for itself. I do not accept that to give Howie the credit for getting us back in the league is as daft as it would have been to blame Luke if we hadn't. (Someone gave me that reply on an earlier "Howie" thread") I'm becoming a bit more assertive lately!! I'm defending what I said as well as paying tribute to Scott Howie. The fact is that the game went to penalties. Scott kept them out. Nobody can argue with that fact. The man's worth his weight in gold!!

I realy hope he signs a new contract, he is the best keeper i have ever seen at the club! Yes Hart is good but i dont think we should make him into a permanent first team player just yet.

Has he, or anyone, actually said he's off? Wiggy, it will be all change, but no one really knows if the wages budget will have to be slashed, depends who you chose to believe + if you can trust GP.

Howie's definitely worth at least another year because of his performances earlier this season & last season.
Ye, 1 more year, so we can maybe let Joe Hart settle in the team a little bit longer
