Were you at the England v Sweden under-16s international at the Meadow in August 1999? Have you ever wondered if any of the players 'on show' that night went on to enjoy successful careers..
I've just discovered the squad list from that night and using the gift of the BBC sport webpages it seems that some have gone on to do quite well.
The notable names who featured in the game are:
- Andrew Lonergan THEN: with Preston NOW: Preston's number 1 - but currently out with knee ligament damage)
- Alex Bailey THEN: with Arsenal NOW: with Chesterfield
Neil Austin THEN: with Barnsley NOW: still with Barnsley
- Stephen Cooke THEN: with Aston Villa NOW: still with Villa - has been on loan at Wycombe recently
- David Fox (?!) THEN: with Exeter NOW: with Man Utd but last seen having a trial at Rotherham
- Ben Muirhead THEN: with Man Utd NOW: with Bradford
- Jermaine Jenas THEN: with Forest NOW: well, I'm sure you know already!
- Simon Johson THEN: with Leeds NOW: still with Leeds: currently on loan at Barnsley
- Neil Wood THEN: with Man Utd NOW: with Coventry
- John Spicer THEN: with Arsenal NOW: with Bournemouth
The other players seem to have faded into obscurity.

I've still got a team sheet somewhere. The only names that stuck in my mind were Lonergan, Fox and Muirhead (who was the most impressive on the night). Don't recall Jenas at all Was it Sweden - I thought it was a smaller country, in football terms (Finland or Iceland ?)

Aleix - hadn't forgotten about Fox's recent stay at GM. it as read that most people would remember this (though some may have blanked it out!)
And yes, it was definitely Sweden - I have the team sheet here. Whatever happened to Adan Isik, Andreas Ingel, Richard Spong and Andreas Drugge I wonder?!!
