Hi everyone,
Following issues raised at the Umbrella Group - Commerical Group meetings and also taken forward by the embrionic shrewsTRUST, the club have asked for help with regards selling of the mathcday programme.
The club are looking for extra programme sellers. Four are required in the ground. One is required to sell in the Crown Public House - Abbey Foregate.
There is the possibility that other sites and areas may become available, such as a seller required for the Narrows, other pubs in the area if aggrement can be reached.
For each copy sold you get 8p comission. Also you will gain free admission to game, although this has yet to be confirmed with the club.
Could be an ideal job for anyone wanting a bit of pin money, prepared to work hard, and help the football club increase programme sales. Could be just the job for some of our Junior Blues etc (although they wouldnt be able to sell in the pubs of course)
If Supporters Reps could bring this to the attention of their membership we would be very grateful.
If you are interested or can help, please contact either Ian Whitfield ( ian@shrewsburytown.co.uk ) or myself Ade Plimmer by pm return of e mail (Adrian.Plimmer@polymerlabs.com)
Many thanks
Roger Groves and Ade Plimmer
Interim co-ordinators shrewsTRUST

I'll do it, provided I'm allowed to sell em in the narrows...it's a massive opportunity wasted if they don't sell them there...

Surely this is a job for young fans that need a little spending money and then get to watch the game. There is a great PR opportunity for the club here to engage with the younger fans and perhaps give the jobs to people who can not regularly afford to go to the games. Many local organisations would be able to provide siutable candidates.

Just a point on the Crown - I would suggest planning visits to there around when the live football on tv is on. Go in there at kick-off (12:45?), half-time(1.30) and outside at full-time (2.30). During the game, it's often too packed to move.

I used to earn a few bob doing this. The lack of stock control helped PS this was late 1960's - I assume things have improved now ;D

don't forget some fans just have to return to their favourite seller every match should be worth about 16p then sounds like a good idea if it works Ade, but It'd not easy to persuade extra fans to part with their money if they don't want to - also I've offered to sell in the Crown / Telepost etc before the match but understood it was a bit risky and there would be no insurance if anything happens, but that might have just been a bit of scaremongering to keep me out the pub

As every one knows i worked at the meadow for 3 years and i dont half miss it i would be back anyday if the pay wasnt so bad. I loved it even if it was freezing cold some days and i couldnt feel my toes i got to see the match free a free programme and i got to speak to the players as i walked around the pitch(that was best part) -ryan and luke are lovely! Give it ago i loved it!

Pmd you Ade. Probably not much help, but if I am required, I don't care where I sell them (up town, in the pub, down the narrows etc...)

Im almost sure that selling them in the narrows isn't allowed. My brother sells them, and suggested moving there to increase sales, but was told they couldn't. Don't know the reasons why though...
Why do they need new sellers? they seem to sell out most weeks anyway, are they going to be printing more?
I'd do it, but I really dont get up for enough matches. I wouldn't take the 8p per programme either.

Years ago I was told I couldn't sell in the narrows by a steward. I think they said the council owned the land up until the gate and as such a permit would be needed to sell there. Inside the gate was STFC property and was fine.

Inside the gate was STFC property and was fine. I say we should go for it. Sell them there and if the council turn up and say the club have to stop selling them there then they move - easy ain't it? We've sold fanzines on the narrows 6 times this season and there have been numerous freebie give aways on the narrows too. Go ahead and sell there STFC, and you can guarantee an increase in sales...

Ant, the penalties for that could be high, as an unlicensed strret vendor, the individual and the club could be heavily punished. even fanzines and stuff by rights shouldn't be sold there, but with the fanzine being unofficial, a blind eye is probably being turned.
If the club were to start doing it officially, then Im sure the council would move to take action.
Better I think, that the club approach the council if they want to sell in the Narrows.

they are desperate to sell more programmes.
i think there will be programme sellers in the narrows on Saturday and I will be disappointed if there isn't.

It is something we've talked about with them. The consensus is that in reality a precedent has been set by fanzine sellers, golden gamble sellers, Shropshire Star et al selling not just in the Narrows, but giving away issues in Abbey Foreagte generally.
The problem with selling programmes or anything in the Narrows has been that it coudl coause an obstruction and that people would go out into the segregated roadway on teh right hand side.
If you have a couple fo sellers maximum who stand as near to the railing son the left hand side as possible, there should eb no problems.
The club actually owns land past the gate infact owns most of the land up to the turn into Abbey Foregate. If you lookthe car park which is owned by STFC virtually goes up to the houses.
With regards selling in the Crwon and Telepost - the club already sell in the Telepost, and Scott the landlord has allowed us to sell in the Crown. Gareth Hopkins - Welsh Shrews sold there before 1 game and sold out.
With regards a peddlars licence.A Lareg Scotch looked into this when launched in 1989. We officially applied for one to sell in the whole Abbey Foregate area but were turned down.
Since then we , TMS, Three Lions, Meadow Mouthpiece, and Blue and Amber have sold in the Narrows without any major problems -apart from Don Stanton stating that this affects programme sales.

I really don't see the issue. If the club wants to increase programme sales it will get a seller or two in the narrows. The idea about health and safety restricting it is, imo, a poor excuse by the club. It was only a few weeks ago that we were told a Drum wouldn't be allowed back into the GM because of similar reasons - a couple of weeks on and look what has happened... Sell em in the narrows and sell em out, everyone's a winner

How much would i get paid to carry the "Golden Gamble Board" around at half time, those kids go to fast and are irresponsible as sometimes they have encroched onto the pitch, and i could do with getting in free for a few games as the MOT is up on the car and Mrs TS has a shopping trip planned for Lincoln.
