Any body else getting infuriated by the amount of of high balls being played around the pitch. We rarely win them, and it just seems to be panic setting in, affraid or too inexperienced to put your foot on the ball and pick out a player.
We, in my opinion, are capable of playing excellent football when we play the passing gaming along the ground, certainly as good as anyone i have seen this year, but we never seem to get anywhere when we hoof and hope.

High balls in behind the defence are ok if you have Langmead up front, as he won almost everything

That's where most teams have a midfield pushing forward and we have a big gaping empty space

Agree that long balls ok when Kelvin there to receive them, but we played like that first half with Rogers and Sheron up there and we won nothing.
First time I have seen Sheron and luke together and have to say that wont work unless we play it to feet. Luke plays better with a big centre forward to play off.

I agree totally with the views so far expressed in this thread and it does my head in just as much.
I have however formed the view that this has alot to do with GPs' prime objective, which we all surely agree with, which is to keep us up.
As a result I believe his first and possible only insruction to the team is THE OPPOSITION MUSNT SCORE.
Therefore the ball does tend to only go forward in the way described and the midfield, which I yearn for as much as anyone,is bypassed.
Personally I dont think thats a bad thing as I reckon our current midfield are pretty cr@p anyway.
No more goals conceeded this season equals 7 points and safety.
This may be the biggest load of bo%%ocks I have written on here (and I know I've written plenty) but I do think the tightening up of our defence since Peters arrived, and the team selections and formations played does show to me that the "seige" mentality is still, and rightfully in my view, uppermost in The Managers mind.
Hopefully once safe we can look forward to the more open game we would all like to see.

No its a valid point What I like about Peters and Wadsworth is they are prepared to change and try something different. Last night Sheron and Rodgers upfront did not work. Changed at Half time Last night was never going to be pretty. If Kiddie lose today last nights point will look good.

Team that try and play 'pretty' football at thi slevel have tendancy to get hammered. We've tried it before with King & Ratcliffe and look where it got us. Thought Stitch should have been moved up front in the 2nd half given that Cambridge were'nt creating that many chances. First 2/3rd's of the pitch were fine-we always seem to loose our nerve in front of goal-failing to convert possesion into chances let alone goals, aimless crosses, balls played in too low so they are easilt cleared etc. Needs a heck load of work-would like to see us play like Lincoln-simple and effective. High ball up, get knocked down to fast strikers who run the ball in-no passing in the box at the last minute just basic route one stuff. If you want fancy passing football watch Chelsea at this level you have to play like everyone else or the chances are you'll get slaughtered! Can't see us getting anything at the New Meadow...sorry Sixfields and given our run-in/kiddie winning things are along way from comfortable. The poor state of affairs up front must be addressed NOW! Siging a 33yr old who is obviously short on match practice as shown last night will not improve matters-a fully fit Sheron would have been an excellent signing but at the mo he looks dead on his feet after half an hour! Where did I put that rabbits foot?
