First half this was simply shocking. I had no idea what we were trying to do in midfield.
Didn't help Wilkinson who whilst looking a decent player had a nightmare positionally and we were lucky not to get caught out First Half.
I hope that as his fitness improves, so does Mike Sheron's ability to play football. He was s**te.
O'Connor is past it but switched on for 20 mins 2nd half when we started to play quite well.
All in all, not a good result for us. But a worse one for Cambridge and for Rushden so not a bad night.
My MOM was Trevor Challis.

Agree but i thought Whitehead was MOM - never put a rfoot wrong really where as challis played a few hosptial passes and second haf did screw a few out into the stands whe clearing - but i will be fair he finally looks to be over the pre histon nightmare he was having The loss was 100% down to midfield - as i put on the other thread - tolley is wasted anwhere but central - And Astions better on left - so all you need a a properright winger (edwards for the last few games this year) and Sedge and Martin OC rotate in the other postion??? Sheron - well dissapointing after last week but give the lad a chance - hes not used to regural footy at the moment - but GP takes that risk with him and it will be his fault if it doen not work.... and poor langers, though he changed the game for us second hafe gettting stuck in and creating trouble But will he be dropped next again Intresting choice

Since Wilkinson leaves his post at right back so much (this is two games in a row now) and likes to get forward, whay not stick him on the right wing? The back four of Whitehead, Tinson, Walton and Ashton is tried and tested and Aiston isn't the same on the right wing.

Exactly who was our right sided midfield player in the first half? Was it left vacant on purpose as mark of respect to the great Ryan Lowe ?

Exactly who was our right sided midfield player in the first half? Was it left vacant on purpose as mark of respect to the great Ryan Lowe ? Or maybe Lowe was actually playing? On a serious note: 1) we missed sidge sitting in front of the back four. Tolley looked a different player when Sedge came on. 2) O'Connor's legs have gone - it;s over 3) 2nd half Langmead held the ball up - that is why we did better 4) our back four did very well, especially the centre backs 5) Sam was anonymous, but then he sometimes is ont he left anyway. Edwards looked good when he came on and is definitely pushing for a place The team we finished with was far better than the team we started with, in terms of fitness, positional balance and possibly even desire

Pretty sure Langmead is carrying a injury, which judging his reaction when he got one foot stamped on didn't help, O'Conner was off the mark with his passing, what was with the bullet passes? who would have thought 4 months ago we would be sooo pleased to see Sedge on the pitch, he made a difference straight away, Sheron seemed to be trying stuff that was rehearsed? if I remember rightly all through his career he has never started that brightly and needs a few games to get his game going.

Good overview Throb just like to add that GP's plan with Rodgers and Sheron didnt work to well and we looked a lot better when Langmead came on.
I think that Sheron's ability will be confirmed when we can afford the luxury od playing him in the hole behind Langmead and Rodgers, he will be playing Luke in on goal and the goals and penalties for us will flow again. Right now its all about not losing and picking up points, when the pressures off we will play.
O Connor, a good servant but his time has come to go!

I cannot understand why Challis is in the team if he is on his way at the end of the season,I've always believed Ashton is the better left back of the two. Tactically we were all over the place last night..Sammy is not a right winger...so really we should drop Challis slot Ashton in at LB to accomodate Sammy on the left of midfield and drafting Edwards in to the right midfield slot...Sedge in the centre with Kelvin upfront......O'Connor and Sheron on the bench as the experienced back up......and there ya go ;D.... Move over GP ...the job's mine ;D

I personally think Ashton is making a midfield berth his own at the moment

In the centre, he's done as well as anyone, but there's only one man who should be playing on the left wing.
Wilkinson or Edwards on the right; Tolley is another who doesn't look athome there.

That first half was odd. Aiston started on the right and then switched to the left but nobody seemed to push over to the right and Cambridge had acres down that side.
I think Ashton is better at left back than in midfield and I think he is better than Challis too.
It is a young man's game and I think if we are energetic then there's a much greater chance of something happening - but overall we are a p**s poor side and no mistake.
Howie Wilkinson Whitehead Tinson Ashton Edwards Tolley Sedgemore Aiston Langmead Rodgers
