On the Radio Shropshire news this morning the Police have found a bag of money in a sports centre in Northern Ireland - and think its a ruse to throw them off the scent of looking for this 23 million Could only happen in Ireland Call me Sherlock, but I reckon they are sending anybody remotely Irish in this country 20 grand each to smuggle it out ;D

To be totally serious Grin a similar thing happened to a mate of mine before Christmas. He applied for a credit card and two weeks later £5,000 pound turned up in his account. Told the bank and they said it was not there even though his account had a £5,000 credit paid in. Turns out his details got mixed up with another person who applied for a cedit card same time as he did but they wanted a £5,000 loan on the card. I blame the beancounters

Seems to me that it is unlikely to be a simple error. Its possible for money to be wrongly deposited due to a wrong digit on a paying in slip, but for your unsecured loan to be paid off requires a lot more information about your finances, and it has to be done deliberately.
You should be able to get your bank to provide details of the account, sort code and dates of the funds which have been used - if your luck holds, it'll be some rich good looking divorcee over the road who has taken a shine to you!

A strong word of advice!! Dont touch it!! I paid my mortgage off with the Woolwich and then two weeks later I had an automatic bank transfer payment into my account for 2500. I used £700 of it to pay it off before, surprise surprise, the Woolwch decided they wanted it back. They got 1800 straight away and the balance was paid back over 12 months interest free. Woolwich blamed a junior clerk for the error!!

I can easily understand an accidental transfer into the account, the odd bit is the paying of of a loan secured against the house. Surely they would at least check the name and address corresponds before doing that! Having a bit of a ring-around today to find out if anyone in the family has had a lottery win
