I think I have heard this before. Wasn't he going to score the goals that would save us from dropping out of the league? This may be controversial, but..... He has not been on song for a couple of seasons now. I thinkd GP has to (and probably will) take the bull by the horns and keep the best of what we have got - ie those who are performing. ie players like Tolley, Edwards, O'Conner?, Howie, Tinson? Sedgemore, Moss? Ridler? and add his own like Langmead, Ling, Ashton, decide if players like Reeves and (Mortimer - sorry couldn't resist that one) Clampitt can contribute and bring in another 2 or three experienced players, ie at least one striker and one defender - offload on transfers or loans the likes of Darby, Lowe (I have always been a fan of his, but doesn't seem to be producing the goods) and even Luke. I would hold on to Street. I know I've not seen them much this season, so you might say I am talking out of where the sun don't shine, but I am going on what I read and in Darby's case, saw of him last night in the reserves. I certainly think Ling is one for the futre, if not the present - this is if Edgley pointed to the right person when I arrived!

I'd have thought we'll offer Luke a new contract, however I fully expect him to move on (for his own good) You forget Aiston who I think will be staying too

Come May, I've no doubt Luke will be our top scorer.

You're right I did forget sam - how could I do that? I think he should stay too. If Luke is top scorer at the end of the season, I will eat......something. But, we will see.

...regarding his contract, I'm surprised nothing has been reported in the local media about this. Have we actually offered him a new deal?
I'd be very concerned if we haven't considering his current deal only has a few months to run!
I do fully expect Luke to move on though in the summer. He needs to.

In retrospect, I think we should have taken the money from Crewe when we had the chance - problem is I didn't think so at the time, because I thought he would take the Conference by storm.

An out-of-contract Luke Rodgers in the summer will not be short of clubs offering him a deal.
They will be able to get him for a knock down price (the tribunal never seems to favour the selling club) and there's undoubted ability in there, it's just not working out at the moment.
You don't always realise what you've got until it's gone...

His short run out at Yeovil was enough to convince me that Luke should stay at the club...

Yeh me to..... he is good enough to stay at the club.... i think he and Kelvin could from a fantastic parntership ... all he needs to control is his anger ... and Blue Peters is the man to do so

There's always a buzz around when Luke's playing - for good or ill. I think we'd have beaten Rushden with him on Saturday. Without him we haven't got the edge and games are duller. But he is a pillock sometimes. I'd love to see him sign another contract ....

from the neutral perspective, hes got that type of game that you need to be successful, is he better when your doing well? one of those players though
Seems like a younger Scott McGleish, lively and lethal goal scorer

Not being funny but why would he want to stay??he hasn't done much fora while now and i think he needs to move on to kick start his career. I would think there will be plenty of teams that can offer him more in terms of money and give him better opportunities of winning things?

Crewe have pocketed a couple of million for Ashton and Dario Gradi presumably has an opinion on whether Luke still has what he wanted 18 months ago

Crewe have pocketed a couple of million for Ashton and Dario Gradi presumably has an opinion on whether Luke still has what he wanted 18 months ago I think you're clutching at straws there. He'll end up at Hartlepool or somewhere like that. To be honest there are so many players out of contract every summer now, if he doesn't commit to Town I think he'd struggle to get signed by anyone above League 2. He might even end up at a Conference side. I think it would be worth keeping him - he has undoubted potential, but he needs to work on his attitude and he also needs to be coached properly. He has not improved his game in the past two years.

Rodgers has scored more for Shrewsbury than any other player in the last ten years and he is still only 23. Every cup game we have the opposing manager will single him out as one to watch. I would be very surprised if he ends up in the Conference next year.

The $6 million question here is whether Luke wants to stay, does he want to put pen to paper and committ himself. I don't think he does, I don't believe that he can further his career any more by remaining at The Meadow and based on present form he's not doing himself any favours. Come the summer and he'll be off and who can blame him in all fairness. Between now and then it's upto Sir Gary to get the best out of him not just for the progress of the club but for Lukes future too. As for him ending up at somewhere like Hartlepool - I doubt it - I think he'll remain in the midlands and the sort of club that springs to mind would be a Coventry City or even a Walsall, may he even be tempted by a move South West to Yeovil. Only time will tell but in the meantime we all have to make the most of an undoubted talent - I have criticised him in recent times for his performances because they are just not upto the standard we have come to expect but I wish him well both now and in the future.
