Dunny and Colin Bloomfield did a good job although a couple of their asides went on a bit and I think they forgot there was a game going on in front of them! Well Done Radio Shropshire

Presumably they planned to do this sometime ago for the 3rd round of the FA Cup.
It is something that should be done as part of supporting the football club and getting the town and the county behind in the Club in its fight to maintain Football League status.

yes good move that, never mind about having reporters at any other game, get a busload of them down to Rushden!

yes good move that, never mind about having reporters at any other game, get a busload of them down to Rushden! I would suggest you're being a little over critical there SNFC.....as usually there's sod all to report from the duckshed anyhow. Also i thought you had that bloke who does your reports, the one who sound's like he's shouting into a bakedbean tin all the time.

......and whilst we're on about media coverage within the county i would have thought that any fan of AFC Telford would have kept their head down on the matter.
The amount of coverage that AFC recieve from that "respected " organ The Sloppy Star is completely disproportionate to the standard of football they're playing in even allowing for the fact that they are a major sponsor of the club. If i was fan of Ludlow Town , Market Drayton or Bridgnorth i would be well hacked off with the derisory report's they recieve in comparison.

There's only one team in Shropshire!

No they don't have reporters, they have people who phone in results from those teams.
I wasn't at all critical of this until BBC Radio Cumbria (a rural county not unlike Shropshire) manage to have a reporter following Kendal Town away at NBH!
If it was corporate policy of local BBC stations not to cover teams below a certain division then no problem, but just to not follow the second-largest team in the county, when we're not exactly awash with sporting talent is a bit daft IMO.
After all, If shrews average 3,500, AFC average 1,500 (roughly), that seems enough to generate sufficient interest to justify a bit more coverage. After all, what else have we to listen to on a saturday afternoon??

For the record SNFC AFC Telford av 1363 STFC not including the last game v Bristol Rovers 3946 HHS there was an update in the Rushden programme. Our average is now over 4,000. 4031 i think it was For a while under the Jake King regime a 3,000 crowd was a rareity.

I'm told that Radio Salop cut down Telford coverage more because of budget cuts rather than a reaction to the team's reduced league status.
Twelve months ago Telford fans were arguing that they should have equal coverage because they were in the same league as Town. Now they are arguing for equal parity even though they are 4 levels below Town and have a third of the support.
Personally I would like to see better coverage for all the teams in the county - Shifnal, Bridgnorth and Ludlow play at a level that is closer to Telford than Telford is to Shrewsbury.

I'nve never argued for parity for STFC this season, but I do think that the balance of coverage is grossly unfair and unjustified

SNFC, can I ask one thing. How do you feel about AFCTU attempting to get into the Unibond Attendance Records book via a gimmick I only ask, as the sham hasn't gone down to well with the current record holders my spies in the North tell me, and I can understand their point to some extent. Is it just a MONEY thing

I am not sure how Wellington Town can claim to harness the interest of the large Telford conurbation
Crowds of 1500 even at their peak justify this view
The fact is Wolves are the number one team in Telford and will be for quite a while yet.
AFCTU do have a disproportional coverage considering their size and stature as a club, it is far too large
But considering they represent a medium sized town like Wellington they do deserve at least some coverage

Ridiculous Dave, a silly comparison! Thats a bit like saying that most people in Chester are Liverpool or Everton fans so they should be discredited!
Wellington Town was transformed into TUFC over 30 years ago and (like it or not) it is the main sports team in the county's largest conurbation. You can argue all you like about the rights and wrongs of Telford (My family can be traced back to ironbridge at the time of the building of the bridge in 1779), indeed up until his death in 2003, my dad refused to acknowldge that Telford existed, he always wrote his address as Madeley, Salop!
However, the fact is that AFCTU s the principle sports team in the largest conurbation and that should be taken into account, Otherwise, you'll end up with radio shropshire and the shropshire star reporting solely on Manchester United, who are probably the team with the largest support in the county!!
On the subject if the Unibiond record, its certainly not a money thing, as the kids are being let in under a sponsorship scheme. In addition, although this might break the record I reckon we would beat it anyway by the end of the season. I'm not 100% happy that we seem to be buying a record, but at the end of the day whats the problem with it? no-one's going to get hurt!

I'm not saying it was definately him but........... at 9.45ish yesterday morning a caller called "Albie" rang up to protest about the Jerry Springer Opera to be screened yesterday evening. He was very anti swearing and somehow managed to turn it round to being nurtered in society generally via the Football terraces and such like Anyone else catch it ?

I think you'll find we have Dunc. However, as you are aware, they are a commercial entity and do not have the same obligations that a local BBC station have!

I reckon Shrews home attendance must be down on last year if you knock of the away fans As I was corrected by Gall the average attendance figure is the same as last season at the moment. So keep coming up the A5 for the odd game Hmmm
