Police in Cardiff are searching for a gang of 15 men, believed to be
from the North London area, after a valuable piece of antique
silverware was stolen from the Millennium Stadium. The silver was
smuggled out of the stadium in full view of 70,000 people and millions
of people watching on T.V, following an unprovoked attack on a party
of visitors from Manchester.
The mugging place late on Saturday afternoon as the visitors from
Manchester were enjoying a stroll in the park. A spokesman for South
Wales police said:
"This was a particularly nasty and cowardly assault. The attackers
lulled the gentlemen from Manchester into a false sense of security by
standing around doing absolutely nothing for two hours, then just as
the visitors were about to get back onto their coach and return to
Manchester, the vicious thugs struck."
Police are particularly interested in talking to one member of the
gang who is commonly described as their 'Captain', he is described as
"tall, hard and skilful, with links to France and Senegal". He was
continually seen during the two hours, committing many minor offences
along with a young Spanish lad, who disappeared towards the end of
this two hour crime spree.
The 'Captain' leads an international gang, it is believed to include
French, Dutch, Cameroon, Spanish and one tall German, who tends to do
a lot of flapping around when under pressure. The police are also very
concerned about one young English lad, taken in by the gang but
wanting to escape to Chelsea. He was seen earlier this year trying to
buy his way out of the gang with a Russian, Portuguese and a man
linked to the pensioner who is the guardian of the visitors from Manchester.
