Delighted, good touch for a tall man and what a change from the small men that have had the striking positions for England for a while now. I expect to see corners being a much more interesting proposition now there is a chance that someone can get up with the defenders and have a chance of flick on's or even scoring. Nothing wrong with the likes of Defoe, Owen etc but too much of a similarity.

might as well try him out in a meaningless friendly
surely got to be better than the woeful heskey anyway!

It could turn out very good for the team, definatly a player who if he does well tonight, could get a regular england place , i think hed be quite good coming off the bench if we need a goal in the last ten minutes of a game.

england seem to have been a relatively small team in recent years, so someone who can head the ball offensively and in defence could be useful. and also the late change of tactics could be could when chasing a game whereas swapping owen for defoe means little change for the opposition.

I read this morning that David James could be the first England keeper to play outfield Mind you, he may be less of a liability

Why play him again? Why not give Green one half and Carson the other?
We learnt nothing more about James in the USA game

Is it true the squad is down to 14 fit players of which 3 are goalkeepers??
As for Crouch, dont see any harm in picking him for a friendly. he's played often enough for the under 21s in the past, offers a slight different alternative, is relatively young and has had a good season.
However i do worry that we may be prone to just hoof it up to him, i mean its not as if we have to think twice about doing it when we play with Owen/smith/defoe/rooney etc upfront

well, i thought he did very well, despite hansen saying he was ' doing ok at best'. he didn't give the ball away, won everything in the air and set up a goal. why on earth did they bring smith on? he's crap and has nothing to offer at international level.

Why play him again? We learnt nothing more about James in the USA game Only that he will continue to be at fault for goals if you play him.

David James is still not good enough to be playing for England.

well, i thought he did very well, despite hansen saying he was ' doing ok at best'. ( Alan Hansen, that pillar of the Scottish defence. He is the last person to take any notice of concerning international Football, he hardly ever played. Crouch was OK from what I saw. Good with his feet for a big lad. Worth a place in the squad, before the Defoes of this world.
