I hear Sam has turned down the Grimsby offer to sign for another League 2 club, any ideas who?

It appears to have been a secret from Russell Slade.

How come Sammy's good enough for a host of other league 2 clubs who finshed above us but not good enough for us to offer a contract? Big mistake I reckon

Big mistake I reckon If we kept all people fav's we would never move on. Stats for assists this season from Sam '1' great laugh, great lad time to move on for him and us.

where did you get your assists stats from?
I can recall him directly setting up at least 3 goals at Gay meadow after Christmas.
I wonder how many freekicks and corners he wins for the side???

I have Geoff. Its just if a stat is going to be quoted, it may as well at least be quoted correctly. Besides If he goes to Darlo theres every chance he'll get a promotion medal which is more then he'd have got here

He may be equal top but 5 assists isn't great, especially for a winger. And his goal scoring record is very poor. I think GP made the right decision.

If you think 5 assists and 1 goal this season and 7 goals in 5 seasons is good for a forward type player then maybe you should follow a different sport. If Sam was less aggresive and not such an all or nothing player then maybe people wouldnt back him so much

True....but it helps if you have forwards capable of scoring a respectable number of goals in a season. You can put loads of crosses in, but if they miss it counts for nothing..................

I'll miss Sam.
He livened up many a game particularly away from the Meadow.

Indeed David Beckham could have been playing on the right wing and theres just as much chance that he'd have ended up with 5 assists. Does it make him a crap player? The fact is Sam had his faults, hell B+A have diessected them often enough after most matches. But he did put some decent balls in. Unfortunatly over the last few seasons our strikers have lacked the intelligence to attack the near post. they stand around waiting at the far post whilst 2/3 defenders just clear the ball. But just like it was Lowe's fault, its also sams fault and I guess it will be the fault of our new winger next season

But just like it was Lowe's fault, its also sams fault and I guess it will be the fault of our new winger next season Rob I know this may sound a crazy idea but shouldn't Sam be looking to pick out the strikers rather than them trying to second guess where he will put it. Its like me passing a ball, it goes 5 yards away from where it should have so its obviously the person who I supposed to pass it to's fault for not getting it: I liked Sam but the fact is he can't cross. If he could he'd be playing at a much higher level because he can beat players for fun and unusually for a winger also gets stuck in. You bring up Lowe getting stick but I think he did because he bottled out of tackles, the Salop fans aren't particuarly difficult to please, even if you aren't the best of players, if you give 110% and get stuck in the fans will like you, see Aiston, Wilding, Anthrobus. Even if you have some remarkable talent and done some very special things in your time at STFC, if you don't give 110% all the time then the fans can be quick to criticise- see Lowe, Jemson, Cramb etc If Aiston didn't get stuck in and appear to care about this club as much as he does then you'd wonder why we have kept him for so long

Indeed you are right about his crossing.
However At cheltenham for example their strikers showed movement, their goal came from the striker running accross the face of goal to head in a cross at the near post.
Do we ever see Luke, Duane, whoever else plays up there doing this? No they just dawdle at the far post behind a defender or two and under those circumstances they will never get a " decent" ball because the defender(s) or goalkeeper will clear it.

I think people sometimes miss the point of a player like sam, he can run at players which scares defenders. I admit his delivery isn't always the best, infact it was perhaps better for us when he got tackled and we won a throw in or corner. Tricky wingers are hard to come by, He wasn't the best but are we really going to sign a better one?
