Can’t believe I’m advocating the return of the 5–3-2, but needs must. Marosi Winchester, Feeney, Dunkley, Sraha, Benning Hinchy, Price Shipley Udoh, Bowman Price probably isn’t fit to start though to be fair. Two up top so we have some sort of threat on the counter at least. I'd broadly agree with that although I'd move Winchester into the middle and have Bennett as RWB. Sadly, I don't think Price is fit enough. I'd put O'Brien in for Bowman. Agree with Hinchy in there for the not good enough Perry. We need to have some threat going forward as parking the bus is not an option.

I gave up thinking to be honest

This game is a mind bender. If you sit back and invite Bolton to attack we will get thumped. I think 4 across the back with three two one. At least we can try and get forward. It’s a long shot but if we get a goal first that would make Bolton try and push hard. I agree with our passing which is awful and is the easiest way. Bolton will score. Im not positive about this match ……..I hope we get something.

Time and time again Bolton have played teams that are out of form, whose fans are complaining, who have nothing to play for, have a lower half or mid table league position and who suddenly turn into Barcelona when they play the Wanderers. Absolutely no idea what causes this phenomenon but it happens and so many of their fans go away saying it's the best they've played in ages.
I can understand it to some extent with the likes of Wigan and Blackpool where there's a local rivalry, but Burton Albion or Leyton Orient? A lot of Wanderers fans are saying that the reason we haven't already bagged automatic promotion is because we don't perform well against the "top teams" in the division - but the reality is we've dropped more points against teams in mid-table and the lower half including: Burton A 1 -1, Wigan H 0 - 4, Reading A 2 - 1, Bristol H 1 -2, Leyton (A) 1 - 0, Wigan A 1 - 0, Northampton A 1 - 1, Exeter A 2 -2 - that's 21 points right there down the pan - easily enough to make us champions regardless of results against the likes of Pompey.
I've seen enough not to underestimate any team and that coupled with the fact that games can be decided on a freak goal, a defender's slip, a bad refereeing decision and other factors that can't be controlled - let alone poor performances on the day - and have come to the conclusion that predicting results is to a large extent guesswork - it's all about performances on the day.
Wanderers are under a lot of pressure to bring our A game tonight - and in some respects pressure might help to eliminate any complacency and focus their minds - so I'm expecting them to deliver. Anything less would be disappointing to say the least.

Sobowale vs Ogbeta. Yikes. neither of them can defend, probably why ogbeta has only managed 28 starts in the almost 2 1/2 seasons since leaving us, none for the club who a chance with him, I'd prefer ogbeta if given a choice but would only ever use him as an out and out winger I mean when hes been allowed to leave Swansea he has pretty much started every game for Posh and Bolton, chasing promotion in successive seasons.

To avoid accusations of this board going into meltdown after another Town defeat- which is going to happen, why don’t we just collectively agree to write tonight off and concentrate on the remaining fixtures that at least offer some hope

Huge respect for anyone travelling to the game - I couldn't imagine a more certain result than a Bolton win tonight.
Let's hope I'm wrong though.

Nothing wrong with criticism based on effort or lack of it.

Never really like to see Town looking to go into a game with some game plan and adjusting things for the opposition but I suspect that will be the case this evening from what Hurst mentioned in his pre-match interview. Perhaps more so with losing Flanagan. So I expect five along the back. He speaks highly of Bolton, hope we're not going there and showing them too much respect.

Shrewsbury have surprised me before so many times so while expecting a bad result, there’s a little bit of me what’s thinking - who knows!

Shrewsbury have surprised me before so many times so while expecting a bad result, there’s a little bit of me what’s thinking - who knows! I agree with that. And I'm actually pleased that Bolton must win to keep their auto hopes alive. It's adds a pressure for them that could work in our favour. I know we have our own pressure but it's not a must win for us. I feel we have more chance of getting something from Charlton.

Just wondering whether it's worth me paying a tenner to watch this on ifollow, or whether i'd be more gainfully employed watching the vidiprinter for the Vale v Wycombe and Burton v Cheltenham latest scores.
I'll probably invest £10 and have sky sports on in the background.

I suspect you’d be a little miffed if you didn’t invest ten pounds and Shrews won the game Northwestman so go on don’t be a Scrooge and put your hand in your pocket. You could also miss the potential frustration of 20k Wanderers fans if you don’t. 😁

Ogbeta can't defend for toffee, but that doesn't bother Evatt who prefers 352 to 532 - putting complete faith in Toal Santos and Jones to manage without WBs
He came in to cover for Williams - another WB who can't defend - and cemented his place after Williams returned from a slight injury. We do have a couple of others who can play there and are more defense minded, but Evatt likes high risk attacking football which is great to watch when it comes together, even though we have to hide behind the sofa at times when we're out of possession.

Ogbeta wont have an easier game than tonight. We have proved over a full season that we cant attack, the lowest scorers in the whole FL. Indeed I think the lowest scorers in the top 6 leagues.
He will have plenty of chances to get forward.

Get Bennett on the pitch, he might be slow now but he can read the game well, give him the captain's armband as well.
I sense O'Brien is left sided but swap him for Bloxham please, give Feeney some help defensively and link up attacking play.
I'd like to see Price involved from the start but I suspect it won't happen, Hinchy could be a starter.
Consider Bowman for Udoh.
Also leave Perry and Bayliss back in Shropshire.

Absolutely agree with you about Bennett . Good player is Bennett , intelligent and always seems to be in the right places. Pity he isn’t a few years younger but he is still a fit guy . Shipley , Bayliss and Perry we are stuck with for now unfortunately , maybe if selected they may actually turn up tonight and put in a performance. I won’t hold my breath .
