I wonder how many foreign criminals are currently occupying our overcrowded jails?

Does seem more like a criminal gang robbing from the system rather than individuals making false claims. I was trying to work out how three people had got claims of over £50 million themselves
The full report on the case does show it was a big operation which included money laundering as well as fraud and also exploited a lot of vulnerable people for their identities
Good work to the team who led the investigation

I'm not entirely certain that anyone on here has actually denied that there is benefit fraud, but that apart, of course this case is worrying, as it defraud not only the general taxpayer but also those people who are properly entitled to those benefits; it is simply not acceptable to shrug it off due to its being an "organised crime gang" behind it all, either: those false claims were made by a number of INDIVIDUALS which suggests that, despite the complaints of some on here to the contrary, there are insufficient and inadequate checks on the authenticity of the claim. Doubtlessly, it will be asserted that there are poor staffing levels at the DWP, but those who complain about the enforcement of "too-stringent" rules cannot at the same time claim under-staffing as the main reason for fraudulent claims.

£4.6billion was lost last year to tax evasion and another £1.7b to tax avoidance.
Just sayin'

Has anyone ever said that benefit fraud doesn’t exist ? Seems unlikely to me. Anyway, this is organised crime so it should be described as such in the more responsible media outlets- which obviously excludes the source that you supplied the link too. Just doesn’t suit their agenda I guess, and gullible people lap it up 😉

Who has ever claimed that? Remarkably silly statement. Being sentenced on May 28th so what's silly ? What's silly is saying that "certain individuals on this board" (as you put it) claimed that benefit fraud doesn't exist. I'll ask again - who has ever claimed that?

£4.6billion was lost last year to tax evasion and another £1.7b to tax avoidance. Just sayin' The amount lost to fraud during Covid (bounce back loans unlawfully claimed, job retention scheme payments unlawfully claimed, PPE procured via the government's fast track and often found unfit for purpose) dwarves both tax evasion, tax avoidance and benefit fraud losses. Only a tiny fraction of the lost Covid fraud billions is ever likely to be recovered.

And how many 'foreign criminals are currently occupying our overcrowded jails'? 9797 or 12% With 14% of UK population being foreign born it seems then they are underrepresented in UK prisons. One to ponder.

In 2023 83,128 males, 3259 females
