Good turnout for the PSA testing at the Meadow last night. Very well organized for about 300 gentlemen. Results for most today. Well done to the organizers of the event and those who attended.

Perhaps it was an event to check whether people could lie face down on the ground.

Whatever you call it or however you spell it I can confirm the test was worth it for me personally and it would be interesting to know how many of the 295 who were tested need to take further action like myself. My PSA level was high for my age and combined with recent excessive nightly toilet visits I was advised to consult my doctor. I was lucky enough to get an appointment yesterday and a digital Rexham examination revealed no cancer but an enlarged prostate which at this stage can be treated with tablets to shrink it and no surgery required. If you didnt go to this weeks event at the Meadow there are other events in the county or its easy to arrange through your doctor. As with all cancers its all about early detection as we keep getting told. Just a few minutes out of your day. DO IT.

I was encouraged by Dave Cossey who works for the club and whose prostate story is by now well known. A good friend for many years who is going out of his way to bring the importance of testing to all town supporters.

It's great that this event was arranged by or held at the club.
I have been to other similar events that are held in the Telford area in recent years so have been checked regularly. Thankfully no further issues for me at present.
But it's always best to get it checked if you are a gent of certain age.

My consultant told me I have to have a biopsy.

My consultant told me I have to have a biopsy. This is the grey area and why many GPs don’t recommend a PSI test without symptoms or family history. I know two people who had high readings sent for biopsy which disproved cancer but caused other problems. Whenever I’ve had a test through my GP it was alway preceded by rectal examination, (explained that, if cancer present defined ridges can be felt as long as it’s not hidden), with no symptoms or clear rectal examination I have to ‘insist’ on PSI test. I don’t mean to discourage testing but it’s not always that straightforward.

I hope everybody who got tested are ok, this is a topic that needs a much higher profile and it is good to see it posted on the forum.

Absolutely. After my last few months and still ongoing I would strongly urge everyone to go for as much testing as possible in whatever area of the body. Early diagnosis is so vital and the cost of any test will be a darn sight cheaper than treatment!
Seriously, go for it. You will either be diagnosed early or have peace of mind.

Yay me 😊

With my high PSA level and toilet problems I went to the doctors for a Rexham examination fully expecting to be referred to a specialist and then an MRI. The doctor however after the examination told me that my prostate was very smooth but slightly enlarged which would have caused the increased toilet visits. My PSA although a high level was not a concern for my age. If the surface of the prostate had been rough or lumpy this would have been of concern. There has not been any sign of wee in the urine and no weight loss. In her words no further action required. No argument from me.
