Goalkeeping coach in his home town would give a bit back and be very welcome.

Remember seeing his debut - it was a midweek game I think against Ebbsfleet or someone at the Old Gay Meadow and was 1-1 from memory. Jimmy Quinn was preparing for the upcoming play-offs and rested Scott Howie.
At one point Joe looked untouchable as England Goalkeeper, but unfortunately seemed to fade.

Yes very welcome, but does he actually owe us anything?

I remember the first couple of games against Gravesend and Morecambe, I must admit I wondered what all the hype was about, perhaps a bit harsh for a 17 year old! And then it was always a brave call for Peters to put him in against Oxford towards the end of the season, I think we were still in danger of relegation so to drop an experienced Howie for a 17 year old was very brave
It's a shame what happened to him after 2016 and to some he's almost a figure of fun but he's won 75 England caps, played at the highest level and wont lots of trophies. Not bad for someone from Shrewsbury

I know we joke about such things but how much worth can a Premier League player accumulate over a career? I mean Hart has had a fairly long career and a fair bit of it at Manchester City. So how much do we reckon he's worth and do we think it would be more than the current chairman? I wonder if Dave Edwards has given him a call.

Is Hart a Salop legend (the club not the town)? If so why?

That was it against Gravesend. Special to have made your debut at the old ground. Not many currently playing that can say that.

Goalkeeper coach? No thanks, Beast does a great job.
Hart’s been finished for a while now but at his peak (City pre-Guardiola) he was undoubtably one of the finest keepers in the world. He can br very proud of his career.

Rightly so imo Graham Turner, Ken Mulhearn, Alf Wood, Arthur Rowley, Peter Dolby, Chris Smith, Michael Brown, Colin Griffin, Tommy Lynch and Frank Clarke. Compare that to Hart who made 54 appearances (as good as they were its not exactly a lot) and I don't understand how he can be put in the same category as them players. He has done Shrewsbury as a town proud and like most of us I have watched his career with great joy but I don't see how he can be classed as a legend for the club. just my opinion of course but I am was surprised when others were giving him that label. His greatest achievement for us was earning a decent transfer fee. Which looking back was kind of poor, 500K for a full England cap is very low considering how good of a player he would have had to become to reach that level. City got there moneys worth 30 times over.

Fantastic career from a proud Salopian.
Would be nice simply to see him around the Meadow every now and again once he becomes a man of leisure.

Guess it comes back to what is your definition of a legend is. Whenever people talk of legends and former greats they refer to the likes of Peter Broadbent & Tony Kelly but they were only with us for one and two seasons respectively. So is it just the amount of games which defines a legend? I suspect that Joe will be considered a STFC legend by some because he came through our youth system and made it to the top levels of the game. Not often that happens.

Earning the Club £1.5m is fantastic at any time. There is a lot of talk about what a brilliant manager Pep is and how he gets the best out of players. Pep also destroys careers like he did with Joe. When Bayern manager part of minds games was "Hart is rubbish". When Pep went to City, rather than saying "It was all mind games he went, Hart you aren't good enough I am bringing in a new keeper". That was start of the end.
Pep seems to have made Kalvin Phillips a worse player as well despite signing him for big money.
My biggest memories of Joe were a wonder save away at Peterborough when he changed direction in mid air and warming up for England in Marseille v Russia. He saw mates Town flag and came over pointing at flag and then his heart.

He’s had a great career and must be the best sportsman to come from our town. The City fans I know loved him and thought him unfairly treated by Pep.
I’ll repeat a story I’ve told before. My mate and I were at Hyde watching Town reserves play Man U reserves, Joe had recently become first choice so Scott Howie was in goal.
Gary Peters came over to chat to us and while doing so a small boy ran over and told him, “a scout is here to watch your ‘keeper”.
To which GP replied, “tell him he’s wasting his time, the good one is playing for the 1st team on Saturday”.

Regardless of his limited playing career at the club, the fee earned certainly helped build the club's foundations alongside the new stadium which saw us rise from lower div 3 /league 2 fodder to standard contenders to rise above.
A superb playing career full of silverware and international appearances in an era a few years too early for the full talent England now have at disposal. In his prime he'd still be lining up for country.
Be nice if he'd chuck a few quid in to the club now.
