Presume the laughter is about United?
I'm absolutely gutted they didn't go through - we could have 5 British teams in the last 16 of the Champions League, that would have been awesome

I'm disappointed, but they didn't deserve it, but how much did you want Ferdinand to kick that cheating keeper when he dived in "so called" agony?...cheating diving scum...I bet he signs for Colchester.
Seems very odd to see them go out so early and no UEFA cup back up either..maybe time for Fergie to go?

Gutted they didn't go through. Although over a league system, there should be no luck in it. They weren't good enough over 6 games...

Absolutely beautiful, I love it.
Who cares if we could have had another British team in Europe?
Very few things give me greater pleasure than watching that spawny, arrogant, bullying, overly aggressive, stopwatch worrying , want-it-all-our-own-way bunch of cheats finishing bottom of their champions league group.
The interview Fergie gives will be TV Gold - for all Colchester fans, this is the man that owns the sour graps vineyard!

This has very serious implications.
The Glazer plan budgeted for qualification to the last 16 of the Champions League.
This leaves a serious hole in finances.
Tonight could be the watershed.

Surely the Thomas's can't both be gutted Man Utd were knocked out. I could understand the sense of disapointment with them being a British club but surely GUTTED is a bit OTT and should be reserved for Man U fans. Isn't that right Jamo

That was bloody shocking. Disgrace. Benfica were diving around all night acting like they've been shot, stopping down for minutes then getting up and running around like idiots straight after. A lot wrong with them isn't there! Another thing, rio touched the goalie with his hands and goalie when down like a stack of bricks for couple of minutes, of which the ref added 45 secs on at the bloody end (what happened to the other minute!). The goalie needed spray on his side cause he was supposedly pushed so hard! what a flaming load of muppets Anyone notice in the first half, bout 20 mins in, the most blatent backpass that you will ever likely too see. Where the hell was the ref and linseman. What the hell were they looking at.
Oh well, they've finally had their payback for those 7 minutes injury time vs Sheff Weds/ 6 minutes vs QPR etc etc etc then

I dont think Andrew is saying it as a United fan, just saying what implications there could be on the way at OT

Have no alliegence to United at all but I feel sorry for one of my best mates at work who has gone out there - he's had some fantastic nights in Europe watching United, this will be his lowest time. They weren't good enough is the reality - in their last 9 Champions League games, they've only won 1 , having drawn 3 this campaign, and lost 2 this season plus their last 3 ties of last season, those are a shocking set of results. Just shows that we are now well into in a new era in English football and United are miles away from the force they once were - these things are cyclical, Leeds in the early 70's, Liverpool in the mid 70's & throughout the 80's, Man Utd in the 90's, now it seems Chelsea. The slipping standards are summed up by the subs. You're losing the game and need impact players to come on and save you = say hello Messrs Park Ji Sung, Saha & Richardson

I think Saha touched the ball 6/7 times and gave it away 4 of them. Richardson is a very good player, likewise Park and those two are the future...were as Scholes, Giggs and Neville looked past it, even tough Scholes scored had another couple of efforts he looks so far off the player he once was

To be fair Utd have been average for the last 3 seasons at least.
The majority of Fergusons signings have been average at best. Coming bottom of a fairly average CL group says it all. Time for Fergie to retire i think before he gets pushed!

I have mixed feelings on this one. On one hand, I'm sad United are out cos I quite like United. On the other hand, I didn't like the Glazer takeover and I'm glad this screws up their financial plans. How those balance, I don't know yet. But if this starts a process in motion that ends up with the Glazer family ****ing off, then that's good.

People will moan about the Benfica players rolling around and making a meal of each and every challenge but you know that’s what you'll get in Europe. And so you have to play with a little more nous. Ferdinand wasn't going to get the ball and yet he still leaned in and nudged the keeper to the ground, who was always going to make the most of it...so why do it, why give him the chance to waste valuable seconds? Don't get me wrong, some of the behavior of the Benfica players was nothing short of a disgrace...but this Manchester side seems to get well wound up a tad too easy... Any other England fans a tad worried about Ferdinand's performance, looked far from convincing? One good thing to come out of last night is, I'd hope, Rooney will be nicely rested and chomping at the bit to perform over here in Germany next year...

Man u have not won away in the Cl since they beat Panatanikos 3 years ago, why anyone expected them to go there and win was beyond me
Not good enough and deserve to be out

Any other England fans a tad worried about Ferdinand's performance, looked far from convincing? Ferdinand looks so ropey at the moment, he's normally one of my favourite defenders, but he appears to be turning into Titus Bramble.

First goalscorer for Benfica, Geovanni, couldn't score for his life when he was over at Barça. It sums it all up really. ManU just can't defend. Ferdinand has been terrible lately.
But I can't believe that as much as you might hate ManU you still want some Portuguese team to go through. For example, I hate Arsenal with a passion but I still want them to go through for the sake of English football.

Arsenal may be an English club, but they're not an English team. In the most part, our sides doing well in Europe would only indicate that some clubs in our league were wealthy enough to buy the cream from other countries - certainly that would be true of Arsenal.
Our game has enough financial inequality with the same clubs perpetually qualifying for the CL and generating huge annual income from their inclusion.
Personally, every one of them screwing up sticks a smile on my face because not one of them cares about the general good of the game in England. Multiply that by 1000 when it comes to the Old Firm.
Not like in the past where I passionately wanted Villa, Forest and even bloody Liverpool to win the European cup.
To hear the top 4 fans bleating on when the go out of Europe also makes me die - oh, the suffering they must know!
