Perhaps harder work than it ought to have been when it came to the second half but job done. Well done Town...👍

Town -2 handicap @ 6/4 tonight. Think I'll have a score after last night's in-play success (Thanks Vale!) That’s eleven ponies and a monkey down the drain for me tonight

Gnahoua looked lively for Macc when he came on, and I never knew Brad Walker loved to take a long range free kick until this evening.
Watch us draw a Premier League B team in the next round now and the latest round of ‘boycott b***hing’ will begin!

i understand that for first ten to fifteen minutes town might be caustious and get to work out the opposition, but Macclesfield were showing very little threat going forward and town made heavy going of things and apart from the odd flurrey hardly got out of second gear. it was more like watching a training game. after thompson sublime goal with the outside edge of his boot from a cross i thought, right now they will go up the gears but it was not to be, some fans entertained themselves by shouting "back to the kepper". ferjiri had a snap shoot saved , wahlley shoot was blocked by the defender.
Laurent was trying get some momentum from the midfield in a rather dire first half.
Arthur gnahoua injected some pace and caused some problems, towns defence switched off 1-1
love comes on and gets booked before he kicks the ball. ferjiri looks rather rusty and not on the same wave length as the other players. Edwards (76 minute)scores to take some pressuer off town , i for one was not looking forward to penaltys we hit the post. a macclesfield player skythed through Love in a horrible leg breaking tackle . a few minutes later the fourth offical calls the ref over and brought his attention to love he gets a second yellow then red "He was involved in an altercation with Vassell in the build up to the goal " after that the fourth offical got some stick Walker scores from a free kick the maccelsfield kepper was reice charles cook who was with us , the ball seemed to go through his hands the shop comes on for the last two minutes as ferjiri comes off. a 3-1 scoreline flatters town.

Okenabhirie, Edwards and Giles were poor; Walker was much better when he started to play forward rather than sideways or (more usually) backwards; Laurent and Thompson looked good in patches, defence were good with Goldbourne the pick; Whalley was his usual enthusiastic self; Murphy had little chance; Love was silly and that will cause a problem for us in a proper game.

There were lots of B teams in the list of possible opponents - and we will be away as group runners up! Out of the 7 possible opponents for the next round four of them are B teams... it’s possible we could end up going to Old Trafford, the Etihad or Goodison for the next round, but going there to play their kids in front of two or three thousand people is not great. Hopefully we will get one of the other group winners such as Accrington or Salford...

passing back to take the sting out of the game ,to regroup or give players a breather or to be on the safe side make sense but town were playing a poor team who did not pose much of a threat .
town players had acres of space with time on the ball . what was disapointing was apart from the odd move were a player used his inteligence and ran in to space to create availability or whalley or thompson used a burst of pace we really did not work them enough.
we got the result but at time we were dire to watch against a very poor team that you would excpect town to be able to open up and put on the rack, untill edwards goal it looked as if we were going to penaltys. .

Did anyone see what Love did in the ‘off the ball’ incident?

Did anyone see what Love did in the ‘off the ball’ incident? Yes, ran over to the guy who fouled him and raised his arm into his face/head. Either a punch or a straight arm, neither very clever.

Perhaps it’s better he learns a lesson in this competition than in the league.

I don't remember ever seeing a 4th Official getting involved in this way. Normally if the ref does not see an incident he has to rely on one or both of his Linesmen. I guess the 4th Official considered himself as a lower league “VAR”. They will be asking for opinions from the Pressbox next.

Macclesfield were a dirty side and seemed to target Thompson who came in for a lot of rough treatment. Doubt he would have been fit to be considered for a weekend game. Love retaliated to a very bad tackle. Hopefully its just a one game ban in this competition and not the league.

Looked like a decent finish from Dave Edwards in addition to 2 great goals from Thompson and Walker. Nice story behind Walker's goal too, hope it spurs him on to bigger and better things.

Has to be said, the official attendance of over 1000 looks incredibly dubious.

The Police are now apparently looking into missing pension payments for Macclesfield employees and with only a handful of players being paid strike action again looks a possibility before Saturdays game. Lucky to get last nights game played and out of the way. It could yet be Macclesfields last ever game.

Missing pension payments for staff - hmm seems very similar to another high profile club disaster. Shambles all round from 'fit and proper club owners'

Walker was my man of the match. His all-round play was very good I thought. The movement in the air for his goal was extraordinary with late swing from left to right and a sudden dip to get under the cross bar.
Over the last few weeks people have pointed out that with three at the back we don't need a defensive midfielder. last night, as with the second half on Saturday, rather than pushing up all the central midfielders Ricketts employed an overlapping centre-back, with Goldbourne joining the attacks on the left side and Williams and Ebanks-Lenell staying back with Walker just in front of them. Deciding to load one of the wings should help us to get crosses in and the players seemed to adapt to it without to much difficulty.
Ricketts is now moving from the first priority of making us difficult to beat by trying to make good the deficit in attacking areas of the field.
I also want to say what an accomplished player Goldbourne looks now he has got some match time under his belt.
