RIP Bob Willis. One of my favourite sporting memories as a child seeing him run in with his hair everywhere. Very sad.

Foster, Read, Atherton and Bob Willis all reckoned that he was one of the top three keepers in County and One Day cricket. So my question is..... Why does never get the International recognition he really deserves ?

I too worry that we (England) have given up on picking a specialist wicket keeper for our test team.
How Ben Foakes doesn't figure is beyond me.
In the recent second test we had Ollie Pope behind the stumps, which says it all really.

www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/50863961" Somerset bowlers Dominic Bess and Craig Overton have been called up by England for their tour of South Africa after the camp was hit by illness.
Several members of England's touring party are ill with flu-like symptoms, less than a week before the start of the first Test on Boxing Day.
As a consequence, Friday's warm-up against South Africa A has been downgraded from its first-class status.
Stuart Broad, Jofra Archer and Jack Leach have not travelled to the game."

Was enjoying a Boxing Day lie in when I was awoken by shouts of “Get in Shagger” from my living room. Son and grandson both in boisterous spirits it seems and quite right too as Curran himself has struck.
Good start by England.

Another tedious post if not unexpected once I knew Sam Curran would be playing.

33.2 overs WICKET - Van der Dussen c Root b Curran 6 (SA 97-4)
"Oh!
Handy, isn't he, Sam Curran? He draws Rassie van der Dussen into a loose forward defensive, the batsman pushing forward with slightly too-hard hands, and a thick outside edge flies to Joe Root at first slip at about hip height."

36th over de Kock hit 3 fours.
36.3 overs WICKET - Du Plessis c Root b Broad 29 (SA 111-5)
"Gone!
An absolute stonker from Stuart Broad and it's done for Faf du Plessis. There's just an extra roll of the fingers over the ball from Broad and again Du Plessis is caught playing a forward defensive, pushing away from his body. A healthy edge flies to Joe Root at first slip and Broad goes wheeling away in celebration."

WICKET
Pretorius c Root b Curran 33 (SA 198-6)
"Never mind the review, this is out!
It's Sam Curran again. It's Joe Root again. The South Africa batsmen have been troubled by Curran attacking both edges and Dwaine Pretorius is the latest to edge one angled across him. Joe Root, his third catch, does the rest. England needed that. A stand of 87 ended."

WICKET
Philander c Buttler b Broad 35 (SA 284 all out)
"Stick that one under 'speculative review'.
Vernon Philander, trying to make a bit of room, plays a prod at Stuart Broad and gets a big edge through to the mitts of Jos Buttler. Everyone knew it was gone, Vern was just chancing his arm on a leftover review.
Broad joins Sam Curran in taking four. 284 about par for the course. England must get their big boy batting trousers on."

8:36 WICKET Burns c De Kock b Philander 9 (Eng 11-1)
"Gone this time!
Just when you think you have all the answers, Vernon Philander changes the questions.
It's a superb delivery to Rory Burns, off stump, neither full nor short, climbing to take the edge. Quinton de Kock does the rest.
I'm telling you, this is going to be very, tough for England."

8:46 WICKET Sibley c De Kock b Rabada 4 (Eng 15-2)
"We'd better strap in here.
Kagiso Rabada has produced an absolute snorter to get Dom Sibley. It's climbed as if pinged from a trampoline, taking the shoulder of the bat through to Quinton de Kock.
Initially not given South Africa reviewed, so Sibley started walking off, knowing he'd be found out. Joe Denly tried to call him back, but umpire Paul Reiffel was having none of it. He did hit it, too."
