Whilst agreeing about the 1960s Scottish contingent -George Boardman was also my favourite, I think you have got your wires crossed. I know the guys who produced ALS and all of them would have been born in the 60s so they would not have been involved then. The next Scottish influx of the late 70s, Irvine, King, Keay, Maguire would also have been too early for them, so I am sticking to my original hunch that the fanzine was probably introduced towards the end of the 80s when Ian McNeil was in charge and had the likes of Bell, Kasule, Melrose and Rougvie in his teams. That was always my thinking too. A Large Scotch started around the Ian McNeil time at the club too.

Loved the Ian McNeil era. Never missed buying a Shropshire Star. Always something going on and not always on the back page.

Doubt it was meant as a comment on the players doing their best on the pitch, more a statement of intent. Docherty is a talisman for an optimistic 2nd half of the season pushing for promotion. He might not get picked every game anyway the form the 1st team are currently showing, but, if he's there, even on the bench it would show we are desperate for that promotion.

I’m listening to this and am smiling in a positive way. We are on the brink of the play offs, and barring injuries we should make that those. I’m not knocking the comments made about Docherty ie yes we need him...... no we don’t we’ve got enough. Ok my take is this, we’ve got Cummings......and before you scream at me......Cummings needs service, he is class around the box , Now, if you brought in Docherty with Norburn and Whalley, Cummings would get the service big style. This other point I’m going to make is that Top 6 is one thing, going one step further to Championship is another, Docherty would complete the jigsaw. If Docherty hit the ground running he would undoubtably help us into the championship. Plus a year on he would be money for us........put soap in my mouth we should never sell him.
Thoughts people.

........ the way we are analysing here tends to suggest we feel the current players are not worthy. I know the players look at this so I think it’s worth saying that we have a hell of a squad. That’s partly down to Sam Rickets. But it’s also true to say that without the players and their ability and want to play for the shirt, something I have said for as long as I’ve been on here, then we would have nothing. We all want utopia in this game but I’m sure I speak for all of us, we have a squad Here that is second to none. Keep it going Salop, loggerheads, players we are all behind you.

Can't be worrying about our players being targets for other clubs, shows how good they are. Just make it attractive for them to stay and enjoy the ride here. Always going to be some churn. Got strikers, though always on the look out, just need to feed them.

Agree entirely. Great reply. The club doesn’t need the money, that begs the question how much does the club want championship football. That might sound a bit finger pointing, no it’s not. To a fan we want championship football, if anyone on here says otherwise then you are not a true Salop fan. I would say that the board want the same..........I hope I’m right. Now watch the synics reply here. My take on this for me.....,,,,if I got the slightest inclination from anyone on the board that we are in it for the money and championship football go and dream...........YOU WOULD NOT SEE ME FOR DUST.

I’m quite sure it wasn’t, but what thought is going through the players’ minds. Greg Docherty, when they’re battling and showing all sorts of fight for each other. Docherty was last season and we were not riding as high as we are now. SR possibly needs to add, if we are going to challenge for a top 6 spot, but choose your moments on the chanting. Plus where does he play and who do we drop to accommodate him? If he comes over he will ask for assurances that he will play, if not he may as well go somewhere else or stay were he is. Walker did well today and is not a regular, I like the look of Thompson and he can’t get anywhere near it.

If we don’t secure the services of GD , AND , if we don’t get in the playoffs I would hate to think what this message board would be like . RW , SR , BC et al , would be vilified from here to the top of Haughmond Hill .
I wouldn’t blame them at all , I’d blame that bugger Boris . Watch out for him , he’s s nasty piece of work he is .
