I have no idea who wrote the match report which appeared on the website today but the standard of writing is appallingly low. I realise that it is quite a challenge to get something out so quickly but I am sure I am not alone in preferring to wait a couple of hours to allow for some sort of proof reading to take place.
Bearing in mind the report is available throughout the world, the current offering is not only an embarrassment to the club but also an affront to the English language.

To be fair though it’s just keeping to the usual standard!! I’ve given up with it all as nothing ever changes or improves with the output. You just have to hope that the rest of the world are as useless and don’t notice.

The standard of grammar and spelling/mistakes of teams dates and times not being changed is schoolboy error stuff... it’s a disgrace.
Although it has been changed now the article on the website this morning read ‘On Tuesday 17th August Shrewsbury Town welcome Rochdale United to the Montgomery Waters Meadow’
Don’t get me started on the match day programme it’s appalling absolutely littered with errors. It’s literally a game how many errors this time? I usually lose count.
Too many Hilarious slip ups to mention but ‘Any Ogogo’ being named on the team sheet was my personal favourite.

It was a struggle to read that report. It reminded me of the reports you used to get in the sports papers back in the day.

It’s written in real time rather than retrospectively, and as such I don’t have a problem with it. It has an immediacy which conveys the game as it unfolded. The old style journo’s who wrote in this way for the Saturday night sports papers probably had proper training for this style of writing.

I understand where you are coming from and if the real time style is to your liking then fair enough. To me it sounds more like the way the tv pundits comment on what they see on their monitors, using the present tense to describe action replays (i.e. past events). There might be some justification in the Town reporter's use of this style if he/she could stick to one tense. There are several examples of tense changes within the same sentence. To me it doesn't convey immediacy, it just grates. A proper report is written retrospectively and therefore should use the past tense. I know people have complained about the club's media output for some time but I have tolerated it until now. In future, I shall only read the reports if I need a bit of a laugh.

And while we are discussing the Club's Media output, the change from Sky Sports News to the Town's own site on the TVs on the concourse is anything but an improvement.
I spent most of half time just staring at constant ads. The half time scores when they did come up seemed to stick on the Premier League and Championship scores for quite a while. The scores for Division 1 when they finally came up on the right of the screen were hopelessly behind. When the half time scores for Division 1 came up on the Stadium scoreboard just before the start of the 2nd half, at least 3 or 4 of the games had different scores from those on the TVs.
Even the stats that were put up were wrong, as they said that no yellow cards had been issued to Shrewsbury in the 1st half.

Agree, we usually have Sky Sports on in the South Stand and did against Pompey. Would rather watch the highlights of the Sunderland v Portsmouth game than the time line ups all the time. The ads must’ve only been on half time as I didn’t see them.

Difficult to write a match report as it happens, but definitely needs to decide which tense to write in and stick to it.
But really, with the official Twitter and various other accounts fulfilling that function, it's surplus to requirements.
The blow-by-blow match report is a bit old-fashioned these days and it would be better to do a 'five things we learned' style piece, albeit it would have to be very on-message given it's the official site.

I know that amidst tonight’s excitement I really shouldn’t be bothered by this, but I have just had a quick look at today’s match report and.....what a load of absolute dross. A total embarrassment for that to go out in the club’s name.
The concept of the match report may be old fashioned to some but, as someone who lives too far away to get to many games, I used to value reading about what had happened. I can’t be the only person who doesn’t do social media, can I?
Perhaps I’ll take my campaign to Messrs Whitfield and Caldwell.

I enjoyed reading that Accy are using “loan” balls.
But it’s not just our site. I see that the BBC match report has Omar Buckles playing for us again.

That just illustrates how interested the BBC are in the lower leagues. Wouldn’t have got it wrong if it had been one of their beloved Premier teams.
