Some interesting quotes from Barry-Murphy about the game tomorrow. www.rochdaleafc.co.uk/news/2019/august/interview-bbmpreshrews/" They’re one of the more senior and established squads in League One." " I would suggest, without trying to play any sort of minds games, that they’re one of the big hitters in League One this season." Rochdale have started the season well and are unbeaten so far with two wins and a draw. Town old boy Jimmy Ryan is unavailable due to suspension. Ricketts thinks Rochdale will play a bit differently and provide a good test. www.shrewsburytown.com/news/2019/august/sam-ricketts-pre-rochdale/" Rochdale are playing a different brand of football this year. They’re quite exciting to watch to be honest, they move the ball really well. It should be a good test for us."

Would love to see us offer a bit more going forward and Dave Edwards is due a goal after his near-misses against MK. Rochdale have a gung-ho style of play so I am expecting a much more open game than the first two league games. Cannot see the two new signings playing a part as they have had very little game time pre-season.

if we lose today how long before ricketts get's the askey treatment? It's those sort of comments that make some on this board look an embarrassment, have you ever thought of getting behind the team, or are you just looking for some attention.

I think Masshrop asks a legitimate question. Hence the ? after the sentence.
But, I will answer the question.
Quite possibly, seeing as we have enough numpties in the crowd.

if we lose today how long before ricketts get's the askey treatment? I agreed - with myself - to give the manager 12 to 15 games before I cast judgement. If after that we are struggling then it will be time for 'the Chairman' to make a decision.

I think he means the fans turning on him, as happened to Askey post-Salford. In fact, the phrase 'Askey Out' was being bandied about after the first couple of games last season - possibly even earlier!

“You can’t start a game any worse, and there is no hiding place from that. Simple. The first ball was a long ball and we didn’t deal with it and the next bit of play, it ended up with a through ball and we can’t defend like that. Looking at giving young players some game time, the first three minutes doesn’t give you a chance in the game when you’re playing against a Championship team from last season and coming through that I thought the players, certainly the young ones, showed real character and carried on going. I’ll say again, young James Rowland for 17 years-old was outstanding, which is not the biggest plus of tonight but where we’re at as we plug our young players in. But unfortunately, we just came up against a very good side and we didn’t give ourselves a chance with the first three minutes of the game.” Sam made eight changes for tonight’s match he explains; “it was always going to be the case, with a few niggles as well following on from the first two games of the season and then because next week we go Saturday Tuesday Saturday. It was a case of necessity really in certain circumstances, but the big one was to also give people game time as well, so players got the game time they needed. Some players got more of a rest than some and some I would’ve liked to have more of a rest before the weekend.” www.shrewsburytown.com/news/2019/august/sam-ricketts-post-rotherham-united/i am not a fan of ricketts but somtimes he cant win, we seem to have a number of players with niggly injurys,we dont have the regular reserve games we once did, so he rested some players and tried some fringe players, whilst the defence and the midfield were a shambels. he will have learnt a lot about the players my only crticismes were that we did not seem to have a plan B and it was an awful game but somtimes that is football.

The idea that we can just continue to make wholesale changes to managers because we don't start a season unbeaten or on fire is utterly ludicrous.
Ricketts needs to be given time. Extended time to actually build a team.
No doubt we will be hearing the usual negativity from the absolute brain drain in our support base who will find absolutely any minor detail as an excuse to unleash there pent up pathetic fury against a manager trying to build something.
Support the team.

Think what I’d like to see today is a bit more of an attacking approach to our game. The set up against Portsmouth was understandable but really saw us defend deep. Then against Rotherham we were out of the game after 2 minutes
Hope to see us be a bit more attacking with the midfielders giving more support to the front two, and more of a plan as to how we might break sides down.
Think as long as fans see some positives and a bit of attacking intent and we’ll all feel more optimistic

Rochdale 3/1 to win this game. A side that are scoring freely against a side that have scored one, conceded 5 in three games with a team that are bedding in, a weak midfield that are unlikely to immediately benefit from new signings and a section of support that will be on the team and managers back in 30 minutes if we are not winning.

Good chance to get ourselves on the scoresheet today as Rochdale have conceded lots in recent seasons and continue to do so early on in this one.. COYB.

Must presume Vincelot is injured. Can’t argue with that team too much, could really do with Norburn and Laurent returning soon though.

a contrast in styles with Rochdale keeping it on the ground, playing some nice probing football as they try to weave through the defence, town using the width of the pitch the creative sparks coming from whalley and Giles, town had some half chances over the course of 45 minutes there keeper made two saves, near the end of the game pierre nearly scored a spectaculare goal with an overhead free kick.last 15 minutes town pressed Rochdale just hope we dont get punished for not scoring.
from a neutrals perspective an entertaining first half, town's defence & midfield need to work on pressing more to stop the passing game in the last third, which cost us the first two goals in the week.

Town looked the more likely to score and threatened as the half drew to a close. Whalley outstanding and Giles now starting to skin the fullback.
Rochdale however look good on the eye not one hoofball in sight
