Agree though that against other opposition or if we go behind in games the starting line up is maybe a bit too defensive, and our distribution from defence and midfield to the strikers needs a lot of work. But it would seem we have options in the squad now and could quite easily go from 5-3-2 to 4-4-2 if we need to chase a game. I do think Pompey will be one of the better sides we'll come up against this season. Hopefully against others we might not need to be so much on the back foot and we won't be forced to sit so deep. As a result we can get more going on up top. Fingers crossed. When I saw the fixtures I thought Portsmouth on opening day would be really tough but in retrospect playing Portsmouth early in the season might not have been a bad thing. I understand they had quite a few new players yesterday. Think once they get used to Marquis style of play and settle down and maybe add a couple of players to their squad they will probably be much more difficult to play against

In complete contrast to what someone like Steve Evans would have said. Kenny Jacket is a gentleman. He was in deep thought on the touchline throughout the match. Not much moaning to the third official either.

Positive comments about us this morning on the revamped Quest EFL show. Good to see that a whole hour is now dedicated to league 1 and 2.

Great win. Defence looked really good and O’leary looks a top goalkeeper. Midfield did ok and battled well, did look better when Laurent came on. Strikers didn’t do enough for me. Need a least another striker, possibly two.

Appropriate for Pompey to play in a battleship gray kit.

Need a least another striker, possibly two. Not sure we need two new strikers, we just need to work on the way they link up with the rest of the team. Okenabirhie needs to learn when to drop deep and when to pull on to the last man. The midfield need to get around Morrison as he wins 90% of things. It'll come with game time and work in training.

Great goal, great result, some excellent defending, nothing special with the ball. Both teams looked rusty. Giles deserves motm for the quality of the deciding goal but, overall, I think Vincelot's performance was as good as anyone's. It was that kind of game.
It was all bits and pieces when we had possession and we lacked a strong influence in the middle. McCormick looks a good player but he's too inexperienced to expect that from him. We certainly need Norburn back.
But the defence seems good and that gives us the chance to win games like Saturday's.
Portsmouth have some good players but, like ours, they need some time. I don't know how anyone can assume they'll be a top team at this stage. They might, but I recall Bradford looked good when they beat us on the opening day last season and look how they went.

Bradford were atrocious and it was massive smash & grab. Pompey were very decent. They’ll be right up there, they have way too much quality not to be! (Famous last words..)

Portsmouth are on Sky tonight v Birmingham in the Carabao Cup. Currently winning 2-0 as well...which underlines how impressive our 3pts on Saturday were. No Marquis for Pompey tonight - anyone else think that he wasn’t at his best on Saturday? Seemed easily affected by our back three and their physical yet fair approach to defending? Looks like Bolton misses out tonight with an ankle injury picked up on Saturday.

I'd fancy telford to beat this Birmingham team tonight.
I'd be ashamed if I had travelled that distance to see the manager put out such a weakened lot.
