The real point about CUIYC, it that it's ours and nobody elses. It maybe naff, outdated, or whatever, but it belongs to us. Football is getting too generic as it is. The same chants, just adapted to the name of the club involved. Nicking other clubs songs and run out music is frankly tinpot and small-time. Naff, outdated, not very good even, but we are proud of it, just like the club, if being up to date means having huge debts and dodgy owners. What would people have instead, "One way or another" ?

I reckon we don't actually need a new one. CUIYC is plenty decent enough. You've even got the bit at the end (the chorus) when everyone can jump about and go daft if thats the fancy.
It really is a decent enough song (for the terrace), we're just not doing enough with it...👍

It will never happen because Sweet Caroline would be an absolutely horrible choice of anthem and every right-minded Town fan, wherever they take in the game, would agree. I was only suggesting using the tune, and replacing Sweet Caroline with Shrewsbury town, like shelf Utd did with Annies song etc and even then it was only a suggestion of an interactive song where even those that don't sing often join in catchy parts of a song several times a season various fans turn up and are "impressive" so say the least I can only say that about us for Cheltenham away although im gutted to have missed charts away which sounded great im sure there may have been other games but none jump to mind there is nothing I'd like better to post on here every week that 19 were great again but I say it like it is critisism doesn't get accepted well on here

How about joining in instead of just criticising those trying to create an atmosphere?

I don't normally get involved with this nonsense, but I was disappointed yesterday when Town got a free kick in a good position during the second half and block 18/19 were too interested in what Pompey fans were doing to get behind the team.

How about joining in instead of just criticising those trying to create an atmosphere? No criticism of those trying to create a positive atmosphere, criticism is of Block 19 and their incessant infatuation with singing songs about the opposition, not our team. More pro Town songs would lead to more people joining in. I have no interest in singing abusive songs at people

I assume you sit elsewhere in the west stand, so why does nobody else in the West stand ever join in with ‘pro town songs’?

I don't think 8 people singing a song that only those within 5 yards can hear really counts the only audible output from 19 seems to me like 9 out of 10 chants involve abuse aimed at the opposing fans or fan as usually happens not really much point debating it its embarrassing , end of story

I see we opened the season with that classic "you ****ed it up" I just about heard it in amongst the impressive away Pompey based songs I wasnt there Saturday so can't comment on or fans for the game but the whole 18/19 thing has been done to death, we know your viewpoint, mine is simply that there are some idiots and some cringeworthy songs sung at times as well as some 'colourful' language but the vast majority of people are there to get behind the team. Interestingly though, I've just seen a video on twitter taken from the Pompey end where their 'impressive' Pompey fans were singing that old classic Pompey song "Ing-er-land, Ing-er-land, Ing-er-land"..... guess you didn't hear that. And certainly isnt a one off, I remember speaking to a Pompey fan post match a few years back who was embarrassed to hear their fans singing songs about Shrewsbury being a s**thole and the anti welsh stuff. In fact some of the away fans you have been full of praise for have done stuff you have been critical of 19 for, ie more interested in the opposition fans/arguing with the stewards etc.

Sheffield United's 'greasy chip butty' song when sung at kick off at Bramall Lane is incredible! Been saying it for years now, about time we got rid of 'Catch us if you can't and replace it with a song that the supporters would actually sing to. Common sense that it would increase the atmosphere at kick off ten fold. Everton fans can’t sing to Z Cars, albeit they do have other club anthems as well, such as Grand Old Team.

amazingly our song isn't even the best Dave clark 5 song glad all over knocks spots of catch us if you can for me there are 2 rules to having a great anthem 1. interactive with fans 2. original Sheffield Wednesday is pretty good!
Hi Ho Silver Lining goes down well with a few clubs whose club name or town has the right number of syllables for it to fit in, both Bristol clubs, Bradford City and of course our friends from down the M54 also use it, but it isn’t original though?

Shame as I thought the atmosphere in safe standing was pretty good Saturday. Not just my maybe bias view either. I brought a friend along with me, he feels safe standing has made a major improvement on the atmosphere at games.

These threads are always the same - a sentiment from a few that we simply MUST change Catch Us If You Can followed by absolutely no consensus on what we'd actually change to, bar nicking another team's chant or a selection of impractical and/or risible suggestions (Sweet Caroline ffs!) I was quite upset to hear Sweet Caroline during the London new year fireworks. What in the name of everything normal and civilised were they thinking? Sadiq Khan ought to walk off the back of this.

I was quite upset to hear Sweet Caroline during the London new year fireworks. What in the name of everything normal and civilised were they thinking? Sadiq Khan ought to walk off the back of this. It's because it's associated with the recently somewhat successful England men's team, and now the very successful England women's team. England supporters nicked it from Northern Ireland – you should launch an investigation!
