That’s their anthem, leave it to them to sing.

That’s their anthem, leave it to them to sing. If a team is going to have 'a song' it should be their own song. Best rendition of a team song I have heard is Bristol Rovers (at their ground). It was brilliant.... and when I looked around I couldn't spot any of their fans not joining in. Awful ground though, especially for away supporters.

Sheffield United's 'greasy chip butty' song when sung at kick off at Bramall Lane is incredible!
Been saying it for years now, about time we got rid of 'Catch us if you can't and replace it with a song that the supporters would actually sing to. Common sense that it would increase the atmosphere at kick off ten fold.

Totally true.Let's take a completely random song that's unassociated with the club before today's year zero date which every supporter will then recite word for word creating a cauldron of atmosphere.... And sack off that other song we've had for years and exclusively used by us.

No harm in trying something out for the new season.

I don’t think so, the reason being it’s totally embarrassing. The best club song ever ? Well , have a look at Hibs. fans singing ”Sunshine on Leith” on YouTube , absolutely brilliant .

We had simply the best early 90's too, and I remember Thin Lizzy, The Boys are back in Town at one stage too.
I actually like CUIYC, it's ours. Seems strange to me that people are talking about taking over someone else's song. It's great for them because it has history and tradition and meaning, but for us would be the musical equivalent of MK Dons, transplanted in, as if that's suddenly enough to make us connect with it.
Seems to me that the best solution is to make a real effort to sing along to CUIYC. I do but most don't. I expect 5000 singing along and we'd all feel very differently about the atmosphere and how we felt about the song.

I can confirm I sing Catch Us If You Can at the following times: - In my bath - In my hot tub - At the Waitrose deli counter - At any time of day where the minute hand on a standard right-handed clock moves within 15 degrees of the hour hand - When apprehending civilians I am arresting for larceny and military personnel I am arresting for gluttony I trust this summary is helpful in assuring you that a significant proportion of our fanbase sing the song regularly.

Be nice if the club came up with a poll of 4 or 5 original songs and the fanbase can vote which one they'd like the players to come out to. Needs to be a song which isn't outdated from back in the 70's/80's and something modern that we can sing to. Majority of the singing section in safe standing and block 19 are young lads. Needs to appeal to them as they'll most likely be the ones chanting more than anyone.

Glad all Over and Hi Ho Silver Lining are both sung by Wolves and others.
Great movement from a goal to an anthem here

I know it’s used by many in many different sports but Sweet Caroline never fails to get supporters etc joining in - the traditionalists might like Catch Us If You Can but it’s a bloody awful ‘our tune anthem’, recognisable yes but instantly forgettable too

"Catch Us If You Can" is played near the start of Shrewsbury Town F.C. matches as the footballers run onto the pitch. This has been happening on and off since the 1974-1975 season and is thus seen by home fans as Shrewsbury's de facto theme tune; such was its significance to Shrewsbury Town that a local band, Hello Cleveland, and Shrewsbury fans released a cover version of the song, with a percentage of the proceeds going to children's charity Hope House.[2] The song was made available for purchase on Amazon and on the club's official shop webpage. This was a significant period for the Town and is part of our history, however, times have changed and maybe we should be looking for something more recent to allow the younger fans to sing along too. The suggestion of a poll seems a good idea but for an old codger like me I wouldn't know where to start with today's modern music.

I've always thought this would be a good song. No-one else has it, it's a good tune, lyrics professing love for something (ie a good fit for singing about our team - WITHOUT shoehorning in any new lyrics). Any people who think the song is a bit old fashioned, or don't like the genre, just need to remember that Goodnight Irene is a 1930s blues tune and You'll Never Walk Alone was originally a show tune. All about how it sounds when a crowd sing it, and I think this would sound good. Even if people only sang the chorus en masse it would be decent:
"You're the nearest thing to heaven, yes, you are I have searched for happiness so long and far But my search for love was through, the day that I found you 'Cause you're the nearest thing to heaven, yes, you are"

I think it was in the conference season there was an online poll for a new run out theme and this won!

The real point about CUIYC, it that it's ours and nobody elses.
It maybe naff, outdated, or whatever, but it belongs to us.
Football is getting too generic as it is. The same chants, just adapted to the name of the club involved.
Nicking other clubs songs and run out music is frankly tinpot and small-time.

These threads are always the same - a sentiment from a few that we simply MUST change Catch Us If You Can followed by absolutely no consensus on what we'd actually change to, bar nicking another team's chant or a selection of impractical and/or risible suggestions (Sweet Caroline ffs!)
Catch Us If You Can is ours, and more to the point it's ****ing great - hearing the clang of the guitars in the intro still makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up wherever I am in the ground. If you want to start something else up as a chant, there's plenty of other opportunities.

Not just yet , likely to be tied up in Telford for the foreseeable so I'm told . Don't worry though as you're still on his list , he hasn't forgotten about you and he knows where you live , just has more pressing matters to deal with at the moment 😉

I wonder if many Everton fans similarly want to get rid of "Theme from Z Cars", or Leicester City fans with "The Post Horn Gallop".

Wouldn’t disagree . “Our” song is total s**te and always has been. Does anyone actually sing “Catch Us If You Can“?. I don’t think so, the reason being it’s totally embarrassing. Hello Inspector , always good to hear from you . Now , I fully understand your position and can appreciate that , your good self being an ardent Dave Clark 5 fan would hate to see CUIYC binned . Let’s be honest here old chap , the songs s**te , bilge , utter and complete .............feel free to complete the sentence using a word , or words to convey its standing as amongst one of the worst songs ever recorded . Not the worst mind you , Lady in Red holds top spot. I note in your post that you failed to mention that you sing the song in question on the 9.45 from Aber . to Shrewsbury or on returning at 14.30 . I wonder why? Never mind , toodles for now and hope to hear from you soon . Mind The Gap as your lot say .

If it's going to be anything else then 'we're the blue Amber army' to the tune of seven nation army by the white stripes is as close to perfection as things might get, but CUIYC is ours and that's what I like best about it.
