Mr Grant told friends as they were walking around the pitch after Walsall, “see you next season”. Fact.

Might be a fact he said it but. 1. Did he mean it ? 2. Has he changed his mind having been illegally approached?

Might be a fact he said it but. 1. Did he mean it ? 2. Has he changed his mind having been illegally approached? No might about it, a close relative clearly heard it. SR said that Anthony’s contract had a clause entitling him to a 12 month extension, which he had taken up. The management probably want him off the books to reduce the wage bill as he is unlikely to figure so much this season due to having players more suited to the preferred playing system. Good luck to the guy - he owes us nothing.

I've been told, by various people, that Grant is a genuinely nice bloke. He just doesn't suffer fools gladly, or take any e. If you took away his spite and anger on the football pitch you'd take away what makes him a decent defensive midfielder. I made the same point when Ogogo got sent off at Northampton. These traits are not a problem. It's part of the managers job to ensure they are managed and channelled into a positive.

I hope he does not go as he is probably the player at the club who has the greatest positional sense and the most intelligent movement. Grant gave us some of our best moments in a poor team last year It is up to the coaching staff and manager to get the best out of the players who are characters.

I wouldn't question that but you can be genuinely nice, not suffer fools gladly or take any s**te and still be a disruptive influence within the squad. I don't know whether he's a good or a bad influence, or whether his playing strengths aren't the best fit for how we'll play next season. I just know that it needs resolving soon, one way or another.

We are going to loose good players by not being in the Tunnocks Caramel Wafer Biscuit Cup.

We are going to loose good players by not being in the Tunnocks Caramel Wafer Biscuit Cup. We will just be left with the crumbs. Though if we raid the biscuit tin we could resign Ryan Woods or some other ginger nut. What need have we of Tunnocks Caramel wafers when we have such a great Club.

Given the strength of our back three its probably not necessary for potentially our highest earner to be the one sitting in front of them. I'd be more happy to have 2 players who are of the box to box ilk with an attacking mid just in front. Agreed. If he's one of the highest earners and is in a position that we don't really need...... i appear to be the only one who would rather have Ogogo over him. No you aren’t. Grant is probably wise to want out of this mess.

It always looked to me when he was trying to win a free kick last season that he was more likely to do himself an injury with the way he was going down. He’s a decent quality player at this level but even if we don’t have a good current fit for that position (assuming he leaves) we still have plenty of loan options. One good midfielder coming in on loan might mean SR doesn’t even use a holding player.

Excellent player. Shielded an uncertain central defence, played with passion and read the game very well. Yes, he went down very easily, but I prefer to say that he used guile and his experience to get us out of trouble. His reactions after games we won showed that he cared, and if we lost his anger and disappointment were plain to see. We will miss this player if he goes. Not sure if getting a replacement will be that easy, but, as others have alluded to, maybe with a new defence his type of player will not be needed.

If our defence plays up to our expectations (and I’m talking Williams, Pierre, and Ebanks here not Waterfall or Beckles) then there may be less need for an out and out holding midfielder.
Norburn did the job well last year in games that Grant didn’t play.

Norburn did the job well last year in games that Grant didn’t play. My thoughts exactly. Grant is excellent at what he does, and was exceptional at shielding the back 3 last season. But he offers next to nothing going forward. No doubt this was a contributing factor to our lack of attacking flair and creativity last season. Given the apparent quality of our centre halves going into next season, do we need a Grant in there? Lets start the season with three midfielders that work hard but can also make telling contributions in the attacking third.

If its to do with his attitude and he's rubbing some up the wrong way then fair enough but no doubt about it, at this level, we're losing a very good player. He was head and shoulders above at times last season and I don't just mean within our team... Still, in Ricketts we trust etc etc...

Spot on - Norburn is very good at playing the holding role in midfield and can pass better / cover more ground. I think your spot on that as much as we all liked Grant (myself included) he certainly played his part in our poor attacking displays last season. Saying that I also think Laurent offers very little going forward

"It is thought midfielder Anthony Grant, who has been recovering from dental surgery, will not be joining Town in Portugal".
That's one heck of a recuperation period!

It depends on what treatment he's had, I guess.
It's not worth risking having your lovely new implants knocked out the first time you go for a header.
(not that I'm suggesting he's had implants)
