town lucky not to at least draw, although we did clear a few off the line, we also wasted a couple of good chances, defence looked solid but its not every week they will come up against premier sides who bring on a full fresh side at half time and a tired mistake let villa in to score keeper looked sharp, maybe just one time he could have caught but punched but more like Henderson than Arnold so a massive plus, the obvious weakness is the number 9 shirt needs a decent owner, I guess we have a few names and wait in hope for one of them to get the ok
it was really nice to see block 19 have turned a new leaf, in great voice, no cringeworthy songs, and behind their side all game, keep it up block 19 ;-)
oh and the PA system, dear o dear, I think one of those £5 bluetooth speakers would be an upgrade

Very impressed today. Liked all of the new signings. It’s looking better than last season that’s for sure.

Fejiri and ebanks landell missed sitters in the first half.
Whalley caused all sorts of issues 2nd. McCormick looks very decent and some excellent deliveries from set piecies. Missing arguably our best midfielder still and the number 9 shirt to fill. Defence looks as big, strong and athletic as expected.
Villas goal was a piece of class created by a Brazilian they've just signed for £22m. That's all that separated the two teams.
Plenty of positives.

Watched fair bit and some definite positives. Defensively an improvement on last year and hopefuly that will only grow.
Bit worried about gap between midfield and attack and big roles needed from wingback and those breaking from midfield.
Think Morrison and Fey should have make up of a good parnership, but obviously not ideal town haven't scored in pre season.
Clearly some improvements in central midfield needed but Laurent coming back, and Norburn and Edwards also not miles away should improve things. Just hope wr can soon get rid of Grant and replace him as walker/vincelot don't really look like week in week out starters yet.

Yes, plenty of good things on show today.
Solid, organised and fit (for this time of year).
We're missing key players in Norburn and Laurent, so midfield does look rather ordinary at the moment, but McCormick looks a player.
An improvement on Tuesday, which is what you want.
The starting back 3 for me looks more than decent.
Solid midtable team I reckon.

there was bound to be a gap in quality and Villa found the pockets of space to expolit.my first time to see town play, thought the keeper did well five good saves that included stopping a one on one, stopping a shot through a pile of players when he only saw it at the last minute and the reflex save. towns defence are still settling in so there is bound to be a few miusunderstandings but overall i thought they did well. towns midfield got by passed to often still earely days for walker and vincelot. thought McCormick did well considering he is adjusting to playing at leagie 1. town got behind the villas defence with some nice crossess from giles but unfortently too often players did not take a risk , two headers were players should have done better with them and a good free kick.
early days but they look better than last season, we kept our shape and look more organised.
let us hope they can be tighter in midfield and more clinical in front of goal

Also as I've just seen with Lewis cox article, I don't think I've fully realised quite how new this team is. Only players who were here this time last year who may be considers starters now are Fey and Norburn when he's fit. That is a hell of a turnover and isn't going to fit together overnight.

Really good and testing workout. Sure Ricketts will have been pleased that they were more than taken through their paces. Difficult game that against a top flight side and so considering who we were up against, I thought we did alright.
Considering it's 5-3-2 and the talk is Whalley doesn't fit this scheme, be interesting to see how that plays out. As he looked bang up for it today when he came on did Whalley.

Morrison looks awful! slow uninterested I thought he looked OK. I thought he won more than his fair share of headers and looking ahead I think he'll be looking to get a hold of the ball and get others in and around him into the game. If we have enough bodies around him I think he'll be a decent player for us on that showing.

One a complete t**t to play against who will win headers and free kicks and look to flick on for the other nippy player to score off the defenders shoulder. Morrison is not going to play 90 mins every game which does concern me with this squad but think he will be useful. Hasn't scored a lot recently but his assist record remains pretty good.

I'm not expecting promotion but hoping for an improvement by Xmas on last season

Surprised by the many positive comments. Definate plusses were back three and the Goalkeeper otherwise pretty average. Certainly missing three 1st choice midfielders doesn't help but there was no creativity. Whalley obviously made a difference but where does he fit in the current system? Still pre season and nice to see some decent looking players but unconvinced by the set up still.

Agreed. Morison looks a nightmare for defenders, liked his work rate to.

Decent stuff with an average midfield against a full strength Premier League team.
Giles looked, as he did midweek, a great find and everyone else looked a lot less rusty. Morison was good in comparison to his non-existent against Newport. Whalley is still our best player & I would expect to see him front of a midfield 3 in Tuesday’s friendly otherwise he’ll be sat wasted on the bench which would be absolute madness, even more so given our current midfield woes.
I’m not concerned about not scoring, it’s not like we didn’t create chances against a quality defence... we just missed ‘em.

Still pre season and nice to see some decent looking players but unconvinced by the set up still. I think that's a bit harsh bearing in mind the inevitable gap in quality between L1 and the Prem. To me it looked like we have the makings of a solid, well organised team. Walker and Vincelot were better than expected, in the light of the comments by people who saw them in earlier games and anyway today I wasn't expecting too much creativity on show from Town against superior players. Perhaps reserve that sort of judgment for after the Cheltenham game. I agree that the Whalley question remains unanswered but McCormick looks good and with Norburn to return the outlook is positive.

Such a big transformation from last season defence looks solid, the recent additions to the squad look great ! , romain vincelot looks fresh and fit easily probably are best centre mid since Jon nolan , last 10 mins of the game Daniel Udoh came on showed signs of a player who’s going to get us 20 goals this season and max O Leary was world class !! Should be pushing on for top six this season with the players we got ! .

Morrison looks awful! slow uninterested Were you at the game or in Swansea? I thought Morison was a real handful for the Villa defence, he was strong and laid off some great balls and don't forget this was against a Prem side. I think he'll do well against fellow League 1 defences although I agree with others on here that he's not going to play 90 mins every game.

Morrison looks awful! slow uninterested Absolute rubbish won every header Does exactly what it said on the tin. Problem is Fey does not anticipate any knock ons , at least Morrison isn’t shy letting all around him know. Hope he has a good season and Ricketts gets people working round him.

Satisfactory performance today. Again the back three were good and the keeper had more to do than against Newport and looks good. Love looks more of a right back than a right wing back but defensively looks solid enough, which I'm happy to see. Giles is clearly excellent. The central midfield was makeshift again because of injuries. Vincelot did a lot of work today and turned in a better performance than against Newport. Walker looked a little lost at times and is a concern. McCormick looks a good prospect but does not look as though he is as far in his development as Docherty. Morison saw more of the ball and worked hard and looked physically strong, holding off his defender to win flick-ons. Fey isn't a player you notice until he scores.
All in all this looks like a team that will need to use effort, mobility and physical presence to turn over possession and create chances rather than a team that can impose itself on the game and control the ball. Pretty much like last season then, but from a much stronger looking defensive base.

Agree on whalley being our best player he definitely needs to start. Even if it's in CM he is to good to be on the bench.
