so i know some would rather put pins in there eyes than watch womens football but i enjoy it. England last two friendly's were a bit worrying, whilst i know he was rotating the squad; even though we beat Denmark the score was rather flattering (2-0), what was of concern was how often the defence were opened up and we looked poor against set pices. then a shock dfeat to New Zealand the first time they have beaten us, whilst England were dominant we could not find the net ,to be fair the NZ keepper made some good saves , as England goalkeeper failed to deal with a shoot and a soft goal 0-1.
first game against Scotland in the past this would have been an easy England win but Scotland have improved and have a good youth programe. with the US as defending champions and Germany the other team to watch, it should be an entertaining competition.

Can't say I know an awful lot about the players or the sides that are going to be playing over the next few weeks but I'll be tuning in whenever I can. I think it goes without saying that for the most part it's a fair way behind the men's game when looking to the football on display but then again...its football!! And if you love football then what's not to like? Looking forward to it.

But surely matches like France Women v Korea Women don't justify taking over BBC 1 for two and a half hours?

But surely matches like France Women v Korea Women don't justify taking over BBC 1 for two and a half hours? I think the BBC are trying to raise the media profile of women football and women and disabled sport as a whole, which can only be looked on as a positive, but if anyone doesn't like it then there are plenty of other channels covering sport but of course some of these but not all have to be subscribed.

The games won't be a physical as the men's game but the skill levels are right up there.
I gave it a chance 4 years ago and was surprised.
What would you rather Footy on the TV on an hour of Eastenders followed by a repeat of the recent open all hours series?
Well done BBC well worth the Licence fee.

Football, is football, is football. I shall be watching, like I watch all major tournaments.
South Korea aren't very good at the back mind.

Englands women are much more entertaining than the mens team. I can name more players in this team than the mens. The manager however hasn't yet convinced me he is the best person for the job.

Well fair play to the Koreans as they kept going throughout but France were head and shoulders (literally) above. Decent start for the hosts, which is never a bad thing to keep the interest up...

Womens football is growing www.thefa.com/news/2019/may/14/england-denmark-walsall-sold-out-140519i used to go when they play at the new meadow and we had about 6,000 now they can attract crowds of 20,000 for a friendly in 2017 1.8 million women play football and it is very popular amongst girls. with a professional league there is a career path even if funding is minimal compared to the mens game.

I enjoyed the first match. What level do you think France women's team are at? If they were in a men's a UK league side where would they be?

I thought they scored a couple of cracking goals, notably second and fourth and they were good at set pieces, so I would say at least league 1. I don't think they would have the stamina for championship, which is a tough league.

I was thinking non league, but maybe you're right. Are there rules prohibiting them playing for a men's team?

I think the fact they’re all s**t is probably what’s prohibiting them from playing for a men’s team. The standard is definitely not League One. Similar standard to the seventh or eighth tier imo.

Imagine Waterfall in the box attacking a cross against England’s defenders and goalkeeper. It’s the sheer physicality of the men , their strength and power which would be hard for the women to contest . I like watching women’s football , without a doubt it’s extremely skillful at the top level . But no way would the Lionessess be able to compete at League 1 level .

heartbreak for australia as italy score with the last touch of the game, 2-1. Brazil steamroller jamaca 3-0 the last goal from a free kick was a cracker.

It's probably going to be a few years before it's put the test as women's football is very much in its infancy, but yes I am serious that they could play in league 1 some of the strikers have a real eye for goal and the better sides e.g France, England, Scotland could give league 1 teams a good run out as they are quick to break. I do agree that lack of height and strength is a weakness but as these women teams evolve their tactics may win the day. Obviously severn heaven this is my opinion and you have yours. I look forward to the day it comes to the test.

this was a vital game for England to make a good start for this tornoument, VAR resulted in a controversial penalty awarded to England after 14 minutes, this took the wind out of scotland as England dominiated the first half , the scottish keeper made 4 vital saves with just a few minutes left England score a second.
all credit to Scotland as they grew in to the second half and started to cause England problems, the last 25 minutes Scotland looked the better team, soft defending by England was a factor in Scotlands goal which was well desrvered.
whilst England won the game they need to be a lot more clinical in front of goal, yet again Englands defence get punished for switching off.they also looked rather tierd and faded. the manager Neville highlighted that England the need to play for the whole 90 minutes. it is also worth mentioning that this is Scotlands first world cup. if England are going to get somthing from this tournoument they will need to be better.
hope the injury to Bright is not too serious.

Just watched the England Scotland game and I agree with what others have said about skill levels, but the strength and power are not in the same league as the mens game. The decision making too many times would have left me pulling, what little hair I have left out, if it occured down the Meddah. Doesn't stop it being entertaining though.
I thought the officiating was of decent standard for the most part too, apart from at least 3 times the ball from a goal kick never left the area before being picked up by an outfield player. This happened right in front of the assistant referee and I found it annoying.

Perhaps the change to Law 16 has been introduced for this tournament?

Under recent law changes the ball does not need to leave the area before being played by another player.

You can never have too much football. I'm looking forward to England - Scotland tomorrow. Indeed, I'll probably watch the World Cup games involving England but don't plan to watch many more than that, I did watch a bit of Germany v China yesterday but only because I had little else to do at the time! China missed some great opportunities. With the top level of the Women's game in England becoming fully professional now I expect the standards to rise over the coming years, I'm led to believe we have a chance this year but time will tell.
