Brilliant she is. Bringing up all those children, the washing, feeding and what about the baby sitting duties, cor blimey guv, she must be fair knackered. No wonder she goes on holiday as far away as possible , as often as possible, ( finances permitting , obviously) just to get a break. The modern day equivalent of Mother Hubbard, and no mistake. Sad.

Congratulations to The Queen on her platinum jubilee. A feat that is unlikely to be exceeded. she's not had a lot of completion really ;-) Charles need to live to getting on for 150 if he smashes it

Devastating news about Andrew . Was looking forward to seeing him take part in the Queens Thanksgiving service. No doubt him and Justin Welby would have met and had a smashing time talking about Andrews interests . Never mind, perhaps some other time .

How convenient for him!!!! With his past misdemeanours, for want of a better word, I'm surprised he hasn't caught something else, rather than Covid.

I'm hooked. Good to see Her Majesty The Queen looking healthy at 96. Now is not the time to speak of the wayward family members, let's just celebrate! Red Arrows make you feel proud to be British. Putin had to cancel his May flypast due to bad weather

Just watched the Trooping of the colour and the fly past on iPlayer….Fantastic
Other countries populations are envious of our Royalty, yes we have republicans in the UK but that is all part of democracy upheld through the monarchy.
God save the Queen

It's of no interest to me but I don't begrudge those who go for it (though curious to note staffordshrews's journey from "not a Royal fan" at the start of this thread in 2019 to being "hooked" an hour ago).
I don't buy the line that other countries are envious. Apart from the fact that several still have their own monarchies anyway (albeit they make less fuss about them), I doubt a pro-royal vote would win a referendum in, say, the US or France.
But that's for another day. It's never a bad thing to bring communities together and I'll participate in one of our events this weekend (one is plenty), but it's purely a social event for me.
Each to their own for sure - I won't mention republicanism as long as you don't expect me to play the giddy subject. Enjoy your weekend!

Hooked because we are showing the world our best side. While Russia makes war, America has another shooting, Germany tries to weem itself off Russian gas, France can't run a football match, etc. Hooked because despite our politicians we still look good. By the way, the bearskin: "Bearskin hats are made from the skin of American black bears, taken annually during the Black Bear Cull in Canada. The British Army takes 100 skins for itself, supposedly a mere fraction of the thousands of bears that are killed to keep numbers in check". There is this beacon that concerns me a little, it's a bit "Wicker Man", this one at Saltcoats on the North Ayrshire coast in Scotland.

the problem is the queen has passed her sell by date and her used by date , it's all become embarrassing , she should have hung her boots up 20 years ago , and charles should have skipped his turn too

They should all hang their boots up when Queenie does. None of them will get (or should expect) anything like the respect she has had.

Decent post, I'm still fairly pro monarchy but can understand why people are against them and I don't like the way some pro monarch people seem to try and force people to share their views, if people don't want to celebrate the Jubilee that is entirely their choice. However at the other end of the scale, by all means don't celebrate it if you don't want to, but it genuinely amazes me seeing the anger/misery that some people have because others are choosing to celebrate. I know social media is a toxic cess-pool at times but seeing people complaining because of communities holding street parties, it's a funny old world. That being said, I turned on BBC last night and lasted 5 minutes before turning it off as couldn't listen to much more of the 'we do it so much better/no one else could do what we are doing' blah blah blah.

No Royal fan, but my God she is doing well, on the telly more than Fiona Bruce this week, and she sounds even posher. The women is how old, 93? I take my hat off to her. Madonna, queen of pop turns up on Eurovision and is embarrassing, but our dear old queen is still a world star. Lords, Gentlemen and Ladies, let's toast to the Queen. Though I notice Prince Edward and Andrew are kept well out of it, maybe they should be just toast. I think she is 96

Not a royalist personally and dont really understand the system but a bit puzzled for a few years now as to why the Queen in her advancing years and obvious health problems hasnt stood down in favour of Charles. Doesnt she trust him. Perhaps she could consider skipping a generation and hand it to William who seems to be the best of a bad bunch. She deserves a bit of down time in a bungalow in the grounds of one of the castles but seems determined to see it out to the bitter end. I wonder what Charles thinks of it all. Did he really get into Mums bad books so badly over the Diana marriage that she has held a grudge for all these years. We will never know what really goes on behind the Palace doors.

It’s fine for everyone to take the holidays if they can but, if they do, then I don’t think they should be complaining about the reason. It’s easily ignored without a lot of vitriol being spouted. I agree about people who have to work but would rather be celebrating and I don’t know what the answer is to that.

There was an interesting piece on the BBC website yesterday about how things are being gradually passed over to Charles in a very quiet way.
