Real shame this. Personally, I think clubs need some sort of continuity in coaching staff, whether it be coaching, fitness, analyst, whatever. It help builds an ethos and keeps a sense of stability at the training ground. It would appear DC was popular with the players and how they responded to short tenure in charge would back that up. Results weren't all positive, but we definitely saw a change in intensity and some belief. SR needs to get off to a good start during the first 3 months of the season, otherwise, well we know.... All that, plus we owed him a lot for stepping in twice. DC has been a rock for us.

A loyal servant of the club, well respected by all, and a very good coach, his longevity here is testament to that. I'm starting to think that Ricketts saw Coyne's popularity as a threat to himself. Maybe wanted him out of the picture. Following on from last season, and these decisions, the pressure will be on Ricketts from the start of this. His recruitment needs to be good. If season doesn't start well, I feel another Askey situation from the terraces coming on!

Provided, and i am sure he would, DC was prepared to go on from here being purely GK coach, then where does Mr Ricketts think he's going to get a better one? Presume he has his own man in mind, but shabby looking treatment of an excellent servant of the club would not exactly sell the job to me, if I was eligible.

Joined Middlesbrough as goalkeeper coach. Fantastic news, it’s the least he deserves.

Pleased for him just shows the level of respect he attracts....... be very interested who Ricketts pulls out of the bag that will do a better job for us. He’s supposed to be strengthening the back room staff so must have someone fantastic lined up.

Woodgate's first managerial job; I'd be a bit worried if I was a 'boro fan?

It's a mistake by Ricketts. If things don't go so well in the first part of the season, fans will remember such a popular and loyal coach being dispensed with. Coyne was surely a steadying influence with no managerial ambitions so no threat to Ricketts. I think he's made a mistake.
Meanwhile, well done to Danny in moving up to the Championship.

I imagine Woodgate will get time. He's played there for years and has been a coach in various roles for 2 years so I think Middlesborough know what they are getting themselves in for

A big error of judgement. I wish DC every success. Middlesbrough fans have got a real gem.

If we have an awful start to the season then SR will be gone by Nov.
This decision to ship DC out will hang massively on his shoulders.
The crowd will make it known that it's a shocking decision.
Of course, we could have a good start & it'll all be forgotten about.

Interesting that Leo Percovich is also a GK coach too. Unless his role will be different to Coyne’s?

I agree with what has been said. Coyne is a first class coach and Dean Henderson endorsed that fact in the press. Where Ricketts is concerned he does not like thoughts from other coaches or players with footballing brains on strategies or simply on players themselves. Coyne and Sadler are testimony to that..........there seems a thread here !!

That means something, to me anyway.. SR will be starting the season swimming uphill, but he only has himself to blame.

I wonder if Coyne will be recommending any of our players to Woodgate. Not sure any of the current crop would be middlesbrough quality or previous really that would be available . Docherty perhaps? Back up keeper in Leutwiler or MacGilivray. Nobody else really stands out.

Ironically Woodgate is doing the same as Ricketts, bringing in people he knows, something Ricketts is getting loads of abuse for

I wouldn’t want to live in Middlesbrough though. I can still remember a news item from many years ago when Chelsea supporters coaches were driving through the back streets of Middlesbrough on their way to the ground and their fans were waving £20 notes at the locals and shouting out 'loadsamoney'.
