Hello all, Those of you on Twitter may already have seen that an independent group of Shrewsbury Town fans (yours truly!) today launched a Crowdfunder with the aim of raising £500 for flags (the handheld wavy type) in the South Stand. The intention is not only create an impressive visual spectacle before games but also help boost the atmosphere in the South Stand and make full use of the safe standing area which we are lucky enough to have in this part of the ground. We've already had a small trickle of donations from our Twitter followers, but having seen the Blue and Amber community's exemplary track record on fundraisers for fan projects, we would hugely gratefully if that was to be extended to our project. The crowdfunding page can be found at: www.crowdfunder.co.uk/southstandflags and all donations however big or small would be much appreciated. Once the £500 is raised, we can get work on the flags, which will go a long way in creating the kind of atmosphere we'd all love to see at New Meadow (well, maybe other than northwestman). If anyone has any questions, feel free to drop us a message. Cheers, South Stand Flags

Great idea, as long as the flags are now waving during the game.
..... and yes this has happened quite often in block 9 where I stand

Total after day 1 stands at £195 from 14 pledges. Thank you to everybody who has contributed. Still a long way to go though, so please chip in if you're able to. It would hugely appreciated.

So how will this work? Will it be for one game only and people will get to take the flags home and then bring them back? Will they be asked to leave them after the game and they will be collected and distributed again next home game?
Sounds good anyhow. Good luck. Will donate for sure...

We wouldn't really want people taking them home, people will be asked to leave them behind and we are aiming to have collection points at the exits. Club have been supportive and seem keen to help us out where possible so shouldn't be a problem. Thanks for the support!

This is a good idea BUT the problem with the atmosphere spreading from block 9 is that when SS was launched it was agreed no flags would be in the area in front of the disabled platform. This spreads from 12 to 10 so nearly two thirds of the South Stand.
Personally think its it’s crazy now SS is in place along the whole stand if any fans don’t like the atmosphere (any) they’ve got alternatives. This is the reason the atmosphere doesn’t spread but perhaps they will allow flags in the whole stand now?
Can the SS guys answer this.

It’s a question for the club really but to my knowledge flags are still not encouraged in front of the disabled gantry as will mean fans can’t see. I hope it’s one where common sense would prevail and if fans see they are blocking the view of people on the gantry they wouldn’t use a flag.

I think this only really affects the back row of the safe standing area that's directly in front of the disabled platform and even then it will only be pre-match. I think we shouldn't assume people up there don't want to be involved in the atmosphere and we're certainly hoping to get them involved if possible. It's just a case of being sensible more than anything.

I hope it’s one where common sense would prevail and if fans see they are blocking the view of people on the gantry they wouldn’t use a flag. It’s really a question regarding the great work done on safe standing and the atmosphere sales growing in the future. I stood in front of the disabled on the isle between 10 and 11and the atmosphere rarely spread that far. The three guys behind me had moved from block 19 and are going back. I’m moving to the isle between 10 & 9 but not much free room there. Too late for this coming season but can’t the club market the South Stand disabled area for fans that like noise and atmosphere and the East stand for those that want a quieter area. This would have to be done befor tickets were released but I think you could then position the drum in 10 and the atmosphere would spread either side rather than just stay on one side. Just an idea

Just chucked £20 in, great initiative snd really pleased to see this take off. Just goes to show there is a real appetite for livening up the atmosphere at NM.
Really need people to start buying into it on match day too. Would be really interested to hear what other ideas you've got, seeing as it looks like you're heading towards the stretch target already.

Well, it's fair to say we smashed the £500 target! We now stand at £665, of which £90 came directly from clicks through this forum. Thank you to everybody who has contributed so far.
The crowdfunder still has 32 days to run, so we have added a "stretch" target of £1000, which doesn't have to be met but will help us up our ambitions significantly if it is.
Furthermore, we are meeting with the club at some point over the next couple of weeks to discuss what we can do. We'll be in a better place to answer queries about the specifics of the project one we've done this. The good news is they've been really supportive about what we want to do and have even contributed £100 towards the project.
Again, thanks for all the support. Come on You Blues!

A little reminder.... no YELLOW Great plan - but have to agree with the no yellow reminder. Our amber is already looking a bit washed out in our new kit and our club shop is an array of different ambers and yellows (can the club look at this and agree on a standard pantone colour?). So another dilution will only make us look more like Wimbledon or the yellowy amber of Mansfield! But love the flags idea.

We do (did?) have a registered pantone which I remember Whitters confirming some seasons ago.

Shame he can't use it to check all the different shades of amber in the club shop! it's like walking in to a psychedelic box of matches, the walls are blue but your hit with lazer beams of a million shades of amber and yellow , with a little voice in the corner whispering.. "can I help you with this pile of s**te, the new kits on it's way but it's that late you may want to wait for the next new one" God bless this club
