Thank you Roy Paul and the team. Did you know that Tuffins supermarkets is the only large supermarket where you can buy spanish/salad onions? I'm not Joe King.
This is a true story. I was in Newtown, so I thought I'd pop into Tesco and buy Juan. I looked around, but my search was fruitless. So I asked a member of staff, " do you sell spanish onions? "No", he replied, "they're all british!"

When I started out in men’s football at Chirbury as a 16 year old keeper, I am fairly certain that Roy had a few games for us.

It was always bloody cold and raining whenever I payed out there. Happy days though. My brother in law lives in Craven Arms and we always visit Tuffins when we go to see him . I love it . Always has some great things on offer . Isn’t there one or two Harry T’s dotted about including one in Mach. ? Anyway , good to hear they are our new shirt sponsors.

When I left them after one season (for a hefty transfer fee, no doubt), I had to return in the December with my new club. Whilst warming up before the game, I was struck behind the ear by a snowball, complete with stone inside it. We won 10-0 so I left happy in the knowledge that I had made the right move.😀

I'm actually quite stunned that nobody else has picked up the link with our stadium sponsors?
Isn't anyone aware that Montgomery Waters is owned by the Delves family and that the Delves own Harry Tuffins?
BTW the Harry Tuffins chain was sold to the Mid Counties Co-op a few years back but the monopolies commission decided that gave the Co-op too much power in the area. Therefore the Delves bought the Craven Arms and Welshpool stores/petrol stations back, plus they have a petrol station in Builth Wells as well.
Montgomery Waters distribution centre and offices are behind the Mid-Counties store in Churchstoke ( formerly the Harry Tuffins flagship store)

Paul Delves, Managing Director of Tuffins & Montgomery Waters said, ‘’Montgomery Waters have already enjoyed two seasons supporting Shrewsbury Town through the sponsorship of the Montgomery Waters Meadow. I am delighted to extend this support with Tuffins through the sponsorship of the home shirt’’.
Tuffins also sponsored the sleeve of towns shirts in the FAC Cup games last season.

Are Tuffins planning an expansion across Salop then? Seems a pretty bizarre sponsorship given the limited number of stores within the clubs catchment area. Not that I care either way if they're happy about it, just seems like there's limited benefit to them.

Strangely I wonder if it's the club and the store chain trying to widen interest together in south Shropshire and mid Wales with the context of our Welsh manager and coaches + ex Welsh footy star Mr. Edwards!

Finally a genuine, reputable and local company on a shirt. A good move. I may actually buy a shirt now.

You could have bloody well said, we aren’t psychics on here lol! It’s good you’re here then, you should prove invaluable in rating all the Shrewsbury Town goalkeepers in a fashion few of us can live up to.

Must admit I laughed when I heard Tuffins are going to be the new home shirt sponsors but I’d rather have them than a online gambling company any day of the week.

Tuffins are an independent group and are supplied by Nisa. Nisa were recently taken over by the Co-op group, so you will see some Co-op items in the store. I went to work at the Churchstoke branch in the winter when I got kicked out of the house for being in the way at home. Not the best paid job I've had, but I loved working there due the great folk at the store. We worked hard, but I didn't mind that. Sundays were a complete pleasure, (I'd have done it for nothing), assisting Vera, (Roy's Sister), and Pam Bebb, great fun. At this stage, I'd been promoted to Temporary Deputy Assistant Checkout Commander, (unpaid).
Roy was in the same regiment as me, The Welsh Guards, so we had something in common. I believe he was an army boxing champion. Christmas was always extremely hectic in those days, I used to put in a lot of hours. The popular Roy and his wife, Ruby, (sadly no longer with us), were running the store with Paul. I well remember locking up the till boxes at about 8.15 Juan Friday evening, Roy was still about and shouted "goodnight". Due to a cock-up on the staff rota, I was asked to open up on the Saturday morning. I arrived at about 7.40 and there to say good morning.......was Roy!
P.S. Did you know they sell spanish onions?

Have to say that, living in the south of the county and shopping at Tuffins, I am rather chuffed that we’ve gone for a local business and one based down here in the wastelands at that.

I can only assume that you practice your wit whilst clipping tickets on Trains for Wales. I always try to keep my goalkeeping a secret. I do however, offer an opinion on keepers and other players,?based on experience in varying situations, but that is all it is, a personal opinion that is worth no more or less than yours or anyone else’s.

I'll drink to that! In addition to being a local company it isn't a loan firm, betting firm, fast food or pie firm. Sirs, your money is very welcome and once again Shrewsbury Town do things the right way.

I wonder if the deal includes market stalls and a car boot on match days, RW might be able to shift some old 6xl errea stock out the back of his Bentley!
