The concern there is at what cost and to what extent that will reduce the budget for new players. Was thinking more players being allowed to move on by mutual agreement rather than us paying them off. Waterfall to Lincoln seems a realistic one with Lincoln getting promotion and us needing to shake up the defence, and maybe there might be interest in some of the players who have been out on loan this season Agree though I think the retained list suggests at best maintaining the 19/20 budget, but probably reducing it a bit

Waterfall not considered by many good enough for us, but good enough for Lincoln who are now a League 1 club, with a bigger budget than us? Really!!!

LJL’s and RCC’s wages combined would surely add up to an at least decent squad player that has a chance of playing, right?
Signing up players that are likely never to be used it’s madness. Ridiculous.
That said, I think this squad just needs tweaking not overhauling so big work for Caldwell to get rid of Haynes, Gilliead, Vincelot, AAH for Sam to replace with better. His problem is that the loanees leave a massive hole as two of them were very good for us. Judging by these two being retained I won’t be holding my breathe...

Lots being said about RCC and LJL. But haven't seen Grant new deal being triggered mentioned much. That is quite surprising in itself to me. Looked very much like he was off on Saturday, will be on a hefty wage and rumours that he is a bit of a trouble maker.
Interesting few months ahead. Would be pleased if Bolton signs. and would hope we can get rid of some of the already contracted players without paying them off.

I think with LJL it is very much us clearly demonstrating a duty of care for a player who is recovering from a serious injury. I might be wrong but if LJL had not been injured we would not be offering a further contract. The question there is whether we needed to offer him a full year contract when he may be fit enough to move on in January 2020. He'll probably only just be getting fit by early 2020 and I can't see many clubs offering him a deal then. Is there an insurance contribution to these payments? As Rusholme pointed out, there's an odd silence to the apparent retention of Grant. Anyway, I'll say now that I expect our squad in August will look quite different from the current retained + deal offered list. Too soon to get too worked up about anything here.

As nicko has subsequently pointed out, the contracts offered aren't all necessarily for 12 months.

We have a duty of care to LJL while his recovery is ongoing, and realistically as he is still 6 months away from fitness it won't be big bucks!
There will be further movement on the retained list. There are obviously players still under contract that Ricketts will want to move on. The likes of Jones, Angol, Gillead, maybe Haynes to name a few.
Expect some to be transfer listed / offered to other clubs over the next few weeks.

When grandison was crocked a few years back, his contract wasn't renewed, but he was able to train and use the facilities to get fit, I'm sure that's probably been the case with others over the years, doesn't mean we keep them under contract. Believe they would carry on getting wages until end of June at least anyway. And possibly support from the PFA

Ridiculous. Good point. We may not be offering LJL and Reece Cook a lot but, what with paying for the likes of Sam Jones and Lee Angol as well it soon adds up. Let's have quality over quantity otherwise we end up with a bloated squad with a lot of deadwood that we can't move on.

I'm not sure why people getting so concerned. The only surprises are Shop and RCC, and has been said, they are probably on peanuts. Out of interest, when people say that they are probably on peanuts, what kind of figure are we talking about? £500 a week? More/less? Irrespective of what it is, if we don't need to pay it out then don't pay it. Let's us what finances we have to build a smaller, quality squad and have confidence at the same time in our home grown talent.

I think Ricketts needs to arrange another meeting with the chosen few to sort this retained list mess out.

I despair at times with the intelligence of some of the forum members! LJL has an occupational injury that will be covered by the players union insurance or the Club's so the offer should cost little, if anything.

Anyone at the meeting ask SR as to what plans he has for goalkeepers next season?
Are Arnold and Charles Cook to be our 2 keepers or is he trying to bring someone else in?
