Im stunned by RCC. Less so by LJL although surprised. Can see the club offering a chance to make up for the injury hit season he's had... tho we all know that's as 4th choice. That said, I keep banging on about character and drive etc etc, and if hes good in the dressing room (whilst we can't be only made up of that), thats good enough for me... let's not underestimate the impact support from within can be to our squad. You know you can sign good characters who 1) Can play football to a decent degree 2) Do not have serious knee injury's 3) wont just sit on the bench (or not even that) all next season. Apparently Payne was a great character. Would rather offer him a deal!

21 players retained and four offered new deals. On the face of it, it doesn't look like there is much room for manoeuvre. Bearing in mind how injury-prone Edwards is - and that Sears is out for nine months - we can only hope that offers come in for the likes of Angol, Jones and Gilliead for us to sign better.

I would still expect some of those under contract to be transfer listed or paid off. I sort of see the the reasons why we have offered the shop a deal, as still recivering from serious injury! Charles-cook, however, is totally bizarre!! Not really, we got Junior fit and he ****ed off. Works both ways, we've been a soft touch here...........

If we feel sorry for LJL, then give him an ex gratia payment and get rid.
As for Charles Cook, are we to assume that he's improved sufficiently to be retained despite never being given a game this season, even though Mitchell was nothing special? Utter lunacy, and very depressing to hear that we are even negotiating a new deal with him.

Looking at that list why have we got rid of Mat Sadler unless its about wages? We have offered contracts to much less deserving players. Just hope we can off load some of the players under contract. Having two strikers who can not score, is not a good starting place. Hopefully the club are being nice but know the offers will encourage them to refuse.

Scott hardly been amazing as well...... as I said LJL seems a top bloke but we've had the s**t deal with Mr Brown last season. Sadly we've been soft, not League one standard at all and even less chance will be after that injury.

I'm absolutely furious about this. If SR thinks that Charles Cook and LJL are worth new contracts then I can only come to the following conclusions.
1. SR isn't up to the job.
2. Because others might think so, he's only been given licence to shop in the bargain basement.
3. We shall be in another relegation dogfight.

You'd like to think at a minimum we'll be moving on the players below:
Aaron Amadi-Holloway, Lee Angol, Steve Arnold, Alex Gilliead, Ryan Haynes, Sam Jones.
We'll likely start the season with a defensive 4 or 5 containing Bolton, Goldbourne & Williams, likely Waterfall as well so that almost sorts itself with Sears, Beckles still here.
Again, likely he'll want to play Edwards, Vincelot & Walker after singing them and he clearly likes Whalley & Norborn so again that's a good portion of the midfield.
Interesting window in regards to strikers in and out, and hopefully getting a solid keeper!

Who is going to BUY most of those players off us?
And if not and we pay them off, why not do it now and save 3 months of wages.

So on what evidence do we move on the under contract Steve Arnold and replace him with the not under contract Charles Cook?

Might negotiate slightly less, although most would sit on them knowing they'd be League Two next season at best.

This is a really worrying start to the 19/20 season and we are not even in June yet.

This is a really worrying start to the 19/20 season and we are not even in June yet. It is, but it's not panic button time. I can get my head round LJL just about, the Charles-Cook i simply can't explain though.
Ricketts needs to be given the summer plus twelve games, he's got a lot of dead wood to move on and that isn't his fault! It's a tough task shifting on 5 or 6 in contract players, if not more.

Playing devils advocate here, maybe Arnold has been told there will be a (relatively) top quality keeper coming in (loan or permanent) and he has said he wants first team footbal, and so they offer RCC a contract as an out-and-out number 2?

There is a lot of deadwood, but thats why folks get worried by news like today, WE OFFERED SOME OF THE DEAD WOOD DEALS I mean its under the radar but there are a LOT of fans who not be arsed if Goldborn was not offered a deal either.

We can only hope that this is either fake news or they turn down the contracts.
Doubt it's the former and no chance of the latter as no one else will want either a forward who has suffered a serious injury and has scored precisely 23 goals in 236 League appearances (142 as a sub) or a keeper who hasn't played a single 1st team game since April 2018.
What on earth is SR thinking of?

Some bizarre decisions to say the least.
21 under contract, plus 4 offered contracts, plus 3 first year professionals under contract. 28 players under contract if all four accept, although I suspect Bolton will be going elsewhere.
Clearly there are a large number of deals to be done from those under contract to get the numbers down sufficiently to allow for new players to come in. Unless other clubs are keen on our unwanted players and favourable deals can be done that is going to eat significantly into our 2019/20 wage budget.

Not normally one for negativity but this retained list is really worrying especially if all that are offered deals sign! I really hope Ricketts knows what he’s doing or we are going to be in a bigger mess than when Askey was here

I am absolutely gob smacked to hear Reece Cook and Lewis have been offered new deals. What is going on, this is utterly ridiculous and I am already feeling depressed about next season.
