On 25 October 2006, he teamed up with Shrewsbury Town on a three-month loan deal to provide cover for a facially injured Ryan Esson.[5] During that time, he had impressed the staff, and by the time Esson had returned to full fitness, he had established himself in the first team, causing his loan deal to be extended until the end of the season. His last game for Shrewsbury would have been the League Two play-off final, had it not been against Bristol Rovers, whom he was ineligible to face due to them being his parent club.

A 38 year old goalkeeper who has played three games in the last two seasons. Wow! that would be a real coup!

This came from a very reputed source who has Roland's ear. Personally I think it would be a good acquisition and he was one of my favourites so quite excited by the possibility. He did great things for us Pilch

Goalkeepers last much longer than outfield players. Just look at Buffoon, Kahn and Shilton. Sharp as a tack well into their 40s

No thank you - by singing him your basically say Arnold will be first choice next year. Don’t get me wrong I really like Arnold and thought he did well having played a lot more games than he probably anticipated.. but if we want to push on we need a better goalkeeper

if this true we are either going backwards , someone has lost the plot or we have a very small budget and will be scrapping the bottom of the barrel with predictable poor season..

Let's not crucify him before he's even stepped through the door. Think he'll be a good deputy and good mentor.

I was in The Masonic on Saturday and the police officers told me there was a lot of bother in The Rock. It was true.

Bit harsh but point well made Why are you taking such offence to everything ? Are you his father or something? A 38 year old goalkeeper who has hardly played the past couple years will not be coming here ..

I'm only saying what I've heard. Give the guy a break. 38, so what? Still good reflexes. Only kept out at Oxford by a very promising keeper.

Same crap as last year when we signed Grant - all the FIFA managers on here were up in arms, but of course they wouldn’t accept that now. Any player we do actually sign will be subject to the same nonsense.

I'm only saying what I've heard. Give the guy a break. 38, so what? Still good reflexes. Only kept out at Oxford by a very promising keeper. Oxford's regular keeper Eastwood was injured in their opening game against Barnsley on 4th August. Shearer then had 1 game for Oxford on 11th August when they lost 2-0 at home to Fleetwood. One week later he was replaced by Mitchell, who we all know is not much good. Mitchell was on loan to them until January. As soon as Eastwood was fit, Mitchell was dropped and Eastwood returned to the side. When Eastwood was sent off in the game prior to playing us, they selected a young keeper making his 1st start. Shearer wasn't even on the bench. So what you are saying about Shearer being kept out by a very promising keeper is nonsense. He was dropped for a poor loan keeper.

Looking at the Oxford forum many of their fans expect Shearer to either retire, move into coaching or at best drop into non league this summer.

God almighty, the contempt for a guy who put in maximum effort for Town is staggering. He could be joining us and you've bludgeoned him over the head. Shame on you!
