Ricketts said Waterfall came in with a back injury at halftime. I wonder if Sadler would have got on today otherwise given we haven't seen him play for weeks? Mind you it saves him saying that actually this is Mat Sadler’s last game so I put him on for the fans!!!

I’ve not read any of the points made before I’ve written this. All I would say is please give me some latitude. Firstly I will say letting Sadler going is ****ing stupid and ridiculous. The guy has a football brain !! I’ve always said Waterfall hasnt the brain or the legs. If you want my honest opinion, if Ricketts can’t see what’s in front of his eyes then I will say is ..... keep Sadler and sack Ricketts off . If he does this with Sadler what is he going to do with other Salop players who need to stay. I’m sorry but my thoughts about Ricketts are still the same as they were at the start........the bloke doesn’t know what he’s doing ......end of .

Shame for Sadler, but not surprising given he's hardly played under Ricketts and not sure he covered himself in glory this season.
Definitely good enough for league two though I think. Has a business in Birmingham so presume he will stay local to there, so Walsall would probably be ideal for him.

He's a Solihull lad so maybe Solihull Moors, if they can afford his wages.

is Sadler now an ex player ?
does that mean we can add him to the list of ex-players we have to mention for at least 10 years whenever transfer talk is is the topic ?
seriously, wish him well, was our best player first time round as a left back with a good future in front of him, and did a job for us 2nd time round, I had suggested him as player manager when Askey left, wrong era I suppose , next graham turner ? we'll never know

Sadly there is little room for sentiment in football and Ricketts has made the right call regarding Sadler - seasoned pro, good club man and all round good egg Sadler maybe but age has caught up with him, he may have as some have said a good footballing brain but like his legs that carry him Sadler has slowed down and he’s simply not quick enough in thought or pace, he’s not a League one player anymore. What gave Waterfall the nod is/was his ‘ability’ to come up with some important goals scored because in my opinion LW is equally lacking in pace and no better than Sadler
There were whispers yesterday that Waterfall would like to be nearer his home and could possibly be looking for a move away, who knows but Ricketts certainly needs to find a centre back or two with age on their side and I’d be surprised and a little alarmed if Wrexham’s Shaun Pearson is one of them, he played for Hurst at Grimsby and wasn’t brought here when PH arrived so why now
Thanks for the memories Matt, I wish you well and though you may have wanted to remain I think in hindsight you’ll see it’s the correct decision

Good luck to Sadler in the future - considering he seems to still live in Birmingham & has a successful property business there I can just see him signing for Walsall now that they’re back in league 2!!

I don’t think Matt Sadler is as a done deal as some people are making out. I can’t believe that someone who was so important to our success only a year ago that has fallen off a cliff so badly in twelve months. Playing alongside Toto obviously helped but as Matt seems to be a modest man who is definitely a confidence player then he has missed those components badly this year. It was Hursts vision to turn him into a centre halve after being found out as being too slow at left back. Hurst and Doig gave him the confidence to go and be a successful centre halve and the result was a rock solid defender .
Without a quick centre halve partner and the vision of a quality management team MS has unfortunately been put out to pasture too soon.
It’s probably the people that have made the decision to let him go that should be moved on , not him.

Correct decision. Fans can be sentimental, managers can’t.
Mat’s been a great signing both times and resuscitated his career with the way he converted so well to centre back, but time moves on. If he signs for another League 1 club and does well for them then I’ll concede it was the wrong call but I don’t think that will happen.
Thanks and all the best, Mat, whatever comes next for you.

Yes, it’s only part of the job but a very important one at our level - look how ineffective our attack was when we won nothing in the air in the second half. League 1 defenders don’t need to be Rio Ferdinand to be effective. I thought Beckles did well too, though he had a tougher second half. Not a great performance by Williams though. Pleased for Sadler to finish with a clean sheet. He deserved that.

Williams is normally solid but he had his worst game of the season, he seemed to be getting irritated by the refs decisions and Walsalls forwards going down very easily but to be fair some of it was exactly what grant does. It was also Waterfalls header that needed a goal line clearance from a defender.

I fully agree with Pilch and Venceremos. Cook won nothing in the first half against Waterfall, but caused us problems in the second against Sadler and Williams. One for the Waterfall haters to think about.

Waterfall has had a back problem all season, he cannot run.
Sadler has been stabbed in the back.
There is no room for brains in Sam Rickett's head.

Ricketts certainly needs to find a centre back or two with age on their side and I’d be surprised and a little alarmed if Wrexham’s Shaun Pearson is one of them Pearson has been strongly linked with a move to Salford for a while. If they get into League 2 I doubt we would be able to compete with them financially and maybe not if they don't get promoted.

Some interesting comments on the squad from Mark Elliott on his twitter account post match. Fairly clear from his comments there were different factions in the squad and disagreements over tactics have taken place. Think that may reflect on the comings and going over the summer.
He also comments on some players being seen not to pull their weight. His comments about leaks of information ring true - don't think I've heard so many rumours coming out of the club since the last season Ratcliffe was in charge
