i think it would be a good idea but who will fund it, the way town will expand after the relief road is built , it would reduce traffic into town from that side of town
i would imagine it would cost a lot of money .

Be a bit pointless though, the point of the parkway station at Preston boats is to stop people coming into town to catch trains to and from Wolves/Brum....

Great idea. I've thought for a long time that we need more commuter railway stations, not just town and city centre ones.
I travel to Birmingham a couple of times a week and, by the time I've got into town, parked, walked to the station and caught my train, I can be most of the way along the M54. Apart from that, I'm just adding to the traffic in Shrewsbury. We have no buses from our village, there are few trains to and from Shrewsbury and hardly any if you're trying to co-ordinate them with an onward service to Birmingham. And of course the peak time trains are horribly overcrowded.
I prefer to use trains but we need to make it much easier to do so. A new station is not expensive when you take into account the immediate and long term benefits it brings.

From my understanding the area in question is the site just by the bridge that goes into Upton Magna.. work had been going on to flatten the ground and make it look more presentable. I believe there used to be a railway station there many years ago too.

Didn't Councillor Nutting want an airport for Shrewsbury a couple of years back. At least this proposal makes sense. I know plenty of people who drive to other stations even though Shrewsbury is the nearest. Infrastructure like this makes more sense than HS2.

Just another throwaway comment/idea from Nutting which somehow becomes worthy of front page on the Star. The thing that made me laugh was the headline of 'Out-of-town railway station plan for A5 near Shrewsbury' but the quote from Nutting actually states 'There’s nothing planned'

I think that it is a good idea - we need a decent rail service though. And no more cocking up the roundabouts - a friend from London who came up said that the Emstrey Island roundabout was the most badly designed layout for non-locals he had ever seen (he did not use the Meole island).

Oteley Road is hardly "in town" though is it, plus it's not exactly a million miles from Preston Boats / the A5. Would solve a few other problems too; reduce traffic build up on Saturdays, serve people using the retail park and people from the new housing area going to town/commuting. Just need one at Battlefield too and we'd be laughing.
