We still need at least one more forward. AAH has gone, Angol will surely be going soon, and I can't see LJL lasting beyond January. That leaves us with just Morison, Fejiri and Udoh. I thought we were bringing Payne back permanent? I've heard that too, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it's no more than a rumour and that he still 'needs to be nearer his family.'

Now that would be something...but it just ain't gonna happen... From what I last read about Greg Docherty he's firmly in Gerrard's plans for the upcoming season.

It's a lot of money of the back of one good season. That’s what I thought too. He scored very few at Oldham and was only ok for us. Maybe he’s the business now but it’s still more than I’d have offered!

Campbell hopefully. Stoke added two strikers to their squad who are championship standard. Therefore, Campbell is even less likely to feature. A season long loan would be the best step forward. Or take a leaf out of Ro-Shaun Williams' book and step-down and sign permanently for a league 1 club. Do well and earn a move back up to the championship by playing regularly and improving his fitness, quality and ability.

That does sound realistic. Would love Tyrese Campbell on a season long loan. Dare I say it, we're starting to look quite promising on paper!

Tyrese or Okker playing off Morison would be an interesting attacking force.

Nelson won’t be signing. Has joined Tranmere.

Tranmere has also signed Kieron Morris from Walsall who I seem to recall being a thorn in our side in the past.

Now that would be something...but it just ain't gonna happen... From what I last read about Greg Docherty he's firmly in Gerrard's plans for the upcoming season. Not so sure about firmly. He's with the squad in Portugal at the moment and I guess that will be acid test. RFC are offloading a few midfielders (Grezda, Dorrans, Holt & Rossiter) but there has been very little news linking Doc with a move away. Not sure he'll get near the matchday squad given the current pecking order so watch this space in around 5-6 weeks time.

I'm am writing as an exiled Town fan and so only saw highlights of Docherty play. Obviously he made a decent contribution last year and scored important goals but if we have him back and keep hold of Norburn, Grant, Laurent in the midfield won't that mean we will look forward to another year of struggle in the League as the midfield will be exactly the same.

If he is allowed out on loan again aren't Rangers more likely to want him to play at a higher level though, e.g. in the Championship? That often seems to be the way these things work when players are loaned out for successive seasons.

That depends on whether you think those players, with the exception of Grant, are still at a stage of their careers where they are developing and improving.

Docherty is a class above any midfielder we've had in years, maybe only Godfrey aside. Them two together would've been quite something!

I don't see that as a warning. More a comment that if anyone wants Norburn they'll have to meet our valuation of the player, and that if they did, we'd probably consider selling him. Otherwise, why quote a price rather than just saying he's not for sale? Peterborough have put in a bid, but the price quoted was too high for their Chairman's liking.

You are describing the Docherty we've watched that is on the top of his game, and I'd agree with you that in certain games he's been excellent. Unfortunately, there were also a few games when he put in disappointing performances, and no doubt it was this inconsistency that persuaded Rangers to loan him to us in the 1st place.

No player is League One is consistently on top of their game, hence why they're there. Personal opinion but I think he was quality for us.

They have no manager or paid players for 3 months - I would be surprised if many (or any) turned up.!

Danny Mayor has consistently linked with a move to Plymouth in the last few weeks. It wouldn't be a surprise to see Lowe go back to Bury and take some of their players with him. Ipswich are now also reportedly interested.

I hope Norburn's head is not turned by this media attention.
We saw the same happen with Woods, Goldson, Toto and Nolan in recent pre seasons and off they all eventually went.
We may not be a selling club (that's what Brian said in the past, I assume it's still the case) but if the right offer comes along?

We may not be a selling club (that's what Brian said in the past, I assume it's still the case) but if the right offer comes along? We are most definitely a selling club. We'll take pretty much anything over £600k for anyone. We only held out for more on Toto/Nolan as it was Hurst.
