the biggest let down for this season was Paul hurst, not only taking is eye of ht ball and leaving us in league 1 but then taking our best 2 players with no time to replace them
and some still want this man back
astonishing
get him back shall we, give him a rolling 7 day contract in case he wants to p**s off again at anytime

Undoubtedly, the most depressing seasons were those under Jake King (& that's not necessarily due to him). The club was on its way out. A decaying ground, standard of players that was probably the worst I can remember, the club close to the edge financially and general sense of apathy. It wasn't just one season but two-three years, week after week of struggling. In retrospect maybe King did quite well to keep us afloat.
This season has been fairly crap but not the worst

The question was regarding the least enjoyable season not the worst season, they're not necessarily the same thing.

After the great season we had last year with all the joy, hope and pride it brought for all us fans this season ranks as one of the most disappointing ever. 2002/3 still ranks as the worst but this season ranks as one of the most depressing just because of the status quo of rubbish and struggle resuming again.

And don't forget the ultimately crushing disappointment of last season too! You're right - context is crucial. Luckily for me, I wasn't around for 2002/03, but 2013/14 was as bad, depressing and lacking in anything resembling enjoyment as any I'd ever want to endure.

Silver lining and all that, it would be quite fabulous to relegate Walsall on Saturday.

Think yourself lucky you weren’t around in 2002/3 as it was as awful as everyone makes out. I won’t forget that night against Carlisle when relegation was confirmed and the pain only went at the Britannia stadium just over year later. Last season ended up in disappointment but I loved every minute of it all the same.

I think one thing is for certain on Saturday, send Walsall down there will be a riot, if Walsall stay up there will be a riot, don't think it will be done by gentlemanly conduct.

Every season enjoyable at the Gay Meadow. It was an enjoyable place to watch your football and make a day of it in town or the Abbey Forgate and Coleham pubs. If the football is crap at the new meadow its a crap day all round.

There have been plenty less enjoyable than this season if you have been following Town for long enough, mid table in L2, no cup runs, rubbish crowd numbers, and so on and so on. Just seems that football fans develop the memory of a goldfish at the start of every new season. I think they should do some medical studies into this phenomenon.

This one feels like it's down there, although on paper there have obviously been far worse.
Mind you, I've had a terrible season personally, going too all the dire games and skillfully avoiding the decent ones!

In terms of worst Starts - Here is the record for ALL Managers after 16 League Games 1950/51 Sammy Crooks Division 3 (N) 2 1 9 7 -17 2018/19 Sam Ricketts League 1 1 6 5 9 -8 1957/58 Johnny Spuhler Division 3 (S) 3 1 8 10 -6 2013/14 Mike Jackson League 1 2 5 5 11 -5 1973/74 Alan Durban Division 3 3 2 7 11 -8 1990/91 John Bond Division 3 3 2 7 11 -1 2007/08+2008/09 Paul Simpson League 2 2 6 4 12 0 2018/19 John Askey League 1 2 6 4 12 -2 1999/00 Kevin Ratcliffe Division 3 3 3 6 12 -4 2004/05 Gary Peters League 2 3 3 6 12 -4 1954/55 Walter Rowley Division 3 (S) 3 4 5 13 -5 1968/69 Harry Gregg Division 3 3 4 5 13 -6 Both managers feature in the top 8! Rickets Second worst start! The actual start to the season I believe was the worst in clubs history. Sure i did the research on that but cant lay my hands on what I posted up then. glyn you and your stats lol how about a stat comparing recent managers last dozen games in charge of town regardless of what the game is its 3 points per win. ( eg hurst gets 6 points for Charlton home and away wins) ASKEY W5 D3 L4 pts 18 RICKETS W4 D4 L4. pts 16 HURST W4 D4 L4 pts 16 TURNER W3 D1 L8 pts 10 JACKSON. W2 D4 L6 pts 10 MELLONS. W2 D3 L7 pts 9 SIMPSON W2 D1 L9 pts 7 kind of proves 2 things Askey was a harsh sacking Hurst had to go, hes only as good as rickets ;-)

Goes to show the chairman has a poor record on managerial recruitment. Look how many feature from his time!

Having had chance to reflect on this season, we have shot ourselves in the foot a few times that's for sure, but it's worthwhile remembering that if you look at the teams at the top Starting with Luton we lost away 3-2 when we should have won, okay they beat us convincingly at home, we gave Barnsley the run around at home winning 3-1, should have won away to them, and looking at their points total, we took a point away at Pompey, should have won that one, did the business away to Peterboro, drew away to Sunderland, then there was the cup matches, but yes then losing to teams around us, has let us down badly but all in all, a bit more consistency and there is a half decent team there somewhere, as it's proved in previous seasons getting sucked into relegation fights can either bring the best or the worst in any team, Sc***horpe last season were in the play offs, look at them now, one of the pre-season favourites Bradford ! Down, Plymouth who I consider a potentially big team !! Struggling may go down, so looking at it was always going to be a big ask to duplicate last season, hopefully with a staff turnaround get the right players in, we can look forward to a better one next season.
