www.shrewsburytown.com/news/2019/april/shaun-whalley-signs-new-deal/I'm glad. "I'm a loyal person and I've always wanted to stay here. The manager has taken to me since he's come in and I've taken to him. We both get on well with each other, that's a massive reason why I'm staying because I believe in the manager."I think that comment should dispel any notions of Ricketts being moved out at the end of the season - provided we stay up of course.

We'll get some edgelords in this thread claiming they're disappointed and that we should be looking for better, but they're wrong.
Inconsistent with his end product? Sure, that's why he's in League 1. But he's a consistent threat, always occupying defenders and trying to make stuff happen. Even when it's not quite happening for him (like on Monday) he never stops going, and often wins us points late on as a result. We'd have been safe weeks ago had he not been injured for half the season.

Brilliant news - Great player who clearly cares more than others on the field. Great at running with the ball and very direct - just keep him off corners/free kicks 😉

Decent player. Deserves another contract. I can't believe he has not had a better offer though.
Get him playing in a 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 and he will still be a massive asset.

I'm really pleased Whalley has signed a new 2 year deal, he's been one of our better players this year....even when he's played out of position! It demonstrates that Ricketts is starting to plan for next season and I think this new contract with Whalley is a positive move on Ricketts part. It'll be interesting to see who else of the current squad who are nearing the end of their contracts are offered extensions.

I think 3-5-2 has been to rescue this season and stop shipping goals.
Moving forwards it is no way to progress because we don't have the players for it. Very few top clubs play it.
I am certain we will see a flat back 4 next season.

I wonder if part of Whalley’s responsibilities will be to mentor Ryan Barnett as one for the future. I’m really pleased with this news.

Having defensive right backs and attacking left backs has hampered us this season and made it difficult to get the right defensive structure. I still like 3-5-2 though - or a 3 at the back variant. Man City still use it don't they, with Walker playing as a centre back?

I'm open minded on this but I felt the same about Rodman last season , we certainly missed him all season and never replaced him

Delighted he is staying, I just hope he doesn’t try shooting too often with his left foot.

We don’t play 3-5-2. We play with a lone striker!!

Decent player and on his day he's a match winner. If he was a bit younger he might have had better offers. I felt that he was a bit off the pace at the start of the season possibly because he had seen his mate Nolan and Nsiala waltz off to Ipswich for big money leaving him behind in the third division. Must have been a bit galling seeing as he also had a tremendous season last year. Just play him out wide next season, please.

The best part of this and Sears’ new deals is that we finally appear to have moved past the small time, waiting until the season ends before deciding if we want a player or not.
Great news, someone like Whalley can get taken for granted a bit seeing as he’s been here for so long, but he remains a huge asset.

Thoroughly deserved and always good to see a bit of loyalty in football.
A good early signing which will hopefully be the catalyst for other Town players to sign on again. He's certainly given Rickets the thumbs up which is quite reassuring. Let the rebuilding begin -again!!

The other point with him even as he gets a bit older is that he can always nick something in the last ten minutes.
Bradford, Wycombe etc.

Very happy with that. He is more than capable of causing anyone in the division problems. Nice that he wants to stay too when I think he could have an opportunity to head off someplace else. Good news...

Its great for supporters to have players playing for the club who you know want to be there and are giving 100% to the team every game. Personally not a fan of players whose only knowledge and interest in the town is the road in and out. I know we will always have that kind of player but I was brought up as a town supporter when players actually lived in the town and you saw them about when you were shopping in town. They had feelings for the club and it showed in the way they played the game. Times change and not always for the better but I am very grateful that I was a town supporter when the club mattered to so many great players. Well done Shaun Whalley.

One of the best end products in our league but people will still scream ‘no end product’ regardless.
One hell of a signing considering in recent weeks he’s been as good as he’s ever been. He’s just unfortunate people haven’t finished off what he’s created. Barnsley fans loved him and I’m sure managers take note too, so we’ve done well to have him signed up before the usual ‘weighing up their options’ period during the summer.
I’m happy that we’ll have RSW, Sears, Bolton, Norburn, Whalley & Fejiri to build from as a squad & probably Waterfall (maybe) & Beckles in contention. It’s a decent little group with hopefully room to build a ‘team’ around.

Always trying to make things happen, doesn't hide, loves the club.
Yeah, too many of his set pieces are s**te, but he'll do for me.
No brainer.

Just 5 or 6 additions will do it, depending on who else we manage to retain.
