Four away wins in the league now, and every one has been against a team wearing blue!!

If he gets this result today it will go a long way to assuaging a lot of peoples fears. The only thing worse than making a mistake is not learning from it. Looks like Ricketts might be learning with potentially 2 massive away wins in as many weeks. Of course there is another possibility. Maybe Rickets knew exactly what he was doing and has been fully vindicated. None of us really know so let's just give the man credit for keeping us up with 4 games to go. With respect, there were some truly abject performances in the early part of his reign. One win in ten or 11 early on speaks for itself. Credit where credit's due though, we've definitely improved of late.

Yes in terms of net position, we’re not that much better off than we were when Ricketts took over - or even worse depending on the metric you use.
However we have unquestionably improved from where we were, and have had a good cup run too. In January, I was thinking that one way or the other, Ricketts will have learned a lot from this season with us.
Assuming we do stay up, he’s now got more than double the managerial experience he did when he took charge and knows the club and players a hell of a lot better, and will have overseen a strong improvement in results. Plenty to build upon for next season there. If we continue in our current vein we can hopefully approach the transfer window with an aim to targeting the play offs; cup money plus plenty left that we didn’t spend last summer means we should again have a pretty reasonable budget.

Great away day.. my first visit to Gills.
Why was there no singing etc from their fans?
At last we looked like a team, organised, strongest we could be in each area, compact, up for it, creative, energised.
Thank you STFC

Well done lads. Two away wins on the bounce will no doubt be baffling a few.
Now you just need to avoid the statistical munchkins still flapping (how?.....or even, why?) about us losing 4 in a row. This hasn't happened since a Mr Hurst (who?) was manager, some time ago......It does takes some doing even when were playing rubbish. Were currently.....not rubbish. Half-decent to good might be nearer the mark. Plus all of the teams below us would need to suddenly miraculously become better and play some actual 'football' instead of reducing each other to Div-2-shark-dog-food-bits. (as the bookies all now expect - as most of them still have to face each other - see Northwestman's handy remaining games post on another thread)
I'm going to kick-back and enjoy the remaining games, finish my pint.

Another clean sheet
Mitchell now played 5 hours for us and conceded just 1 goal
Great win today Almost safe but still in danger of being 3 points from the drop zone by the end of the week
Ps
Exactly the same I’d have picked today Looked very strong
Well done town

Thank you STFC It sounds like a morgue on the highlights Trips to grounds like that, make you realise that whilst far from perfect, the Meadow atmosphere has come along way, compared to most in Leagues 1 and 2

A good performance today albeit against a truly awful Gillingham side who looked disinterested from minute 1. Taking nothing away though, we passed the ball nicely and despite the lack of a cutting edge in the first half, there was only one team in it in the second half. Comfortable. Gillingham were never a threat. What I will say is thank god for Ro Williams coming in when he did and Whalley returning to fitness in the nick of time. These are the two main reasons the pressure is off to a certain extent next week at Barnsley...and the fact we will be playing league 1 football again next season. With home games against Oxford and Walsall yet to come I’m confident we can muster a point (which I believe is all we need now to be safe). I’ve not been his biggest fan but well done Sam Ricketts and the team for picking themselves up and fighting as a team over the last few weeks. Happy trip home to Salisbury on the M3

Yet another superb performance today by Beckles. A certain former goalkeeper must be beyond devastated tonight. He played well first half and I was delighted. Second half he twice got too cocky and could have cost us. Ability wise he can get by, but decision making means he will probably be replaced in the summer. I’d rather Omar played for us next season (and many seasons to come) than a player who was twice as good at football but less of a fantastic human being.

He did look a little iffy to start though, first a shot hit the foot of the post with him nowhere near it and then a hopeful angled cross to the near post which I thought he should have claimed but he got into a mix up with Beckles and we got away with it when neither of them took responsibility. He had a right go at OB before taking the goal kick but to me it seemed like a classic case of lack of communication. Soon afterwards he managed to get a fist to a corner that was about to be met by Mr Eaves but then for the last hour he was a spectator (hopefully a warmer one than me).

It takes some doing but that was the quietest stadium I’ve ever been in. Eerily quiet. 3800 of their fans too, what’s that all about? I went there expecting 5k and a bit of noise form behind the goal, they’ve been a rowdy/unpleasant bunch before I’m sure...
Helped us anyway, felt like an end of season match and no tension at all.

today is a step closer but we are only six points clear of Wimbledon who are 21st with Barnsley next who are second then Oxford who are 12th , out of the last five games have won four and drawn once then Coventry who are 8th and have won twice , drawn twice twice and lost once in the last five games and beat Sunderland 4-5 with Sunderland playing at home. in the form table Oxford(3rd) and Coventry(8th) are above us and we are tenth with Barnsley 11th . Well said, by this time week the gap could be three and the game against Oxford would then be a high pressure game. For the gap to be reduced to 3 points all 7 teams below us and Wimbledon would have to win. Very unlikely, maybe even impossible.

To go down now Bristol rovers need to gain one more a point than us Gillingham and Acrington have to gain 3 more points than us Wycombe and Plymouth need to gain 4 more points than us Sc***horpe and Rochdale need to gain 6 more points than us And wilmbledon need 7 more points than us.
We could lose every game and it would be unlikely that would happen.
I think we are safe lads and lasses!

Credit where it's due to Ricketts. Not only did I not see this little revival coming, I actually wouldn't have believed it was possible after the Wycombe game. There has been a strange but very welcome improvement in the performances of pretty much everyone since that day.
Yesterday was a second deserved away win in a row and yet more evidence that - whilst we're not safe just yet - there definitely appear to be several teams in this league who are worse than us.
Walsall on the last day could be absolutely hilarious at this rate. I'm in my mid thirties, and I can count on one hand the number of games against them I've actually enjoyed in my lifetime. Whatever, you think of Ricketts, he could come away from this season as the first Salop manager to completely **** Wrexham and Walsall in the same season in God knows how many years.

I think keeping a settled side has been a big part of our improvement and of course clean sheets make a huge difference. Williams in our defence has been a massive bonus for us and a brilliant January signing not forgetting other match winners like Campbell, but it's a team game and well done to them all. Wheras Walsall are in freefall and seemingly without a plan. Listen to our old boy Martin O Connor after yesterdays game now he is in charge of Walsall and be relieved that we are not in the same boat. So well done Sam and all the coaching team and of course the players, the sooner we start planning for next season the better and start with securing top players like Anthony Grant! www.bescotbanter.net/2019/04/audio-martin-oconnor-refuses-to-defend.html?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=push_notification&utm_campaign=rss_pushcrew¬ification_source=pushcrew_rss

There was indeed, and I can't say there were many games in that run where we were unfortunate not to come away with more. The performance away at Bradford was disgustingly poor (how the **** have we given them six points this season?) But credit to Ricketts. Who knows where we'd have been without the turnaround against Wycombe, but he's shown some positive signs of his managerial ability either side of that and I've got to admit I'm not sure I saw that coming. Assuming we stay up, let's give him a pre-season with new deals for Bolton, Grant and Whalley and see how we do.

town are in 13th place in the tables and a bit closer to safety, after a dominant performance were town pressed high up the park , i always worry a bit after a good first half and no goals but town make the best possible start early in the second half and controlled this game, also pleased to see town continue to press after the second goal with Gillingham looking surprisingly rather poor. i have been critical of Beckles but he had a good game today and made a vital block late in the half.town manged to keep Eaves fairly quiet so a good defensive performance by town, Bolton went off injured so i hope it is not serious. back to back wins for town as we hit 50 points. results go towns way as out of the bottom six teams only wimbeldon draw as the rest all lose. Sorry Zen, not back to back wins We drew last week

found a system that works for us & stuck with it instead of panicking after a defeat also stopped making sweeping changes definatly helped us so hats off to sam for swallowing his pride in a way , our back 3 immense yesterday really compliment each other i have been critical of Ricketts especially the long ball and rotation but finally he seems to have dropped the rotation, we have a settled team, with players playing in there best positions and whilst we are not out of the woods yet. we are starting to get more points , consistency is improving and we have had a few games were the ball is on the ground more and we are pressing higher up the park. the defence still looks vulnerable to crosses and switch off at times but we have been making less silly errors so that is work in progress. all of which did not look possible not that long ago after some dire performances . so Ricketts does deserve credit as do do the coaching staff and players let us hope we can continue with this and get to a point were we are mathematically safe

No coincidence the Tinkerman has stopped tinkering and the results are beginning to happen. Hope this lesson has been learnt. If it’s not broke { baring injuries , suspensions } don’t fix it. Ricketts explains his tinkering in yesterday shropshire star 'that's why I changed the team early on, when I could rotate. It's because I knew how many games people were playing. This final run of games is very important and you want players to be fresh. At this time of year every player, every club has decreasing fitness, it's the same at every level. It's just a question of can you slow down that decrease as much as possible. We have five games to go ( pre Gills) we're good, we still have plenty of running power in the team and we have fresh legs to come in....

James Bolton , 3 year contract now. Don’t wait until the end of the season, sort it out! Bolts gave a smashing interview to radio shropshire and says he definately wants to stay with us next season. His best memory of this season was his goal at stoke and the Wolves game. He also said getting a goal at Gills would be perfect. Well done Bolts you did just that. COYB

It all depends on who we can keep. I personally like Golbourne (left back). He had a good game yesterday and is more reliable than Haynes. His fitness has naturally come on and would be a good signing for next season. Definitely required is a keeper.
