What’s the point in bowlers? Should just use a machine.

I’m sure that’ll really upset players and they’ll never do it again!

just watched end of this online, Bangledesh beat WI to win tri-series in Ireland. Rain affected, WI 152-1 (24 overs) Ban 213-5 (chasing 210 DLS) won by 5 wickets.
Ban needed 27 to win of 18 balls. 22nd over went 6 6 4 6 2 1 to kill of any hope for WI.

Meanwhile England slumped from 201-1 to 216-5 v Pakistan chasing 341.

I just knew that Moeen would play a totally irresponsible shot like that. Not the man for a crisis.

Stokes puts in his monthly shift - games always better when ball is in the game a bit but if Pakistan could catch half as well as they should then this game would have been done and we’d be laughing England’s collapse.

Another w/e without any County cricket !!! (except for Derbyshire v Glamorgan).
The ECB really have shot themselves in the foot. Why on earth didn't they stagger the four day games so that if a fan's team wasn't playing, at least he could go and watch a game in the adjoining County for instance ??

I don't think Denly has done enough in this series to really challenge Moeen. Yes, Moeen is nailed on for a place in the squad. But for his bowling. His batting is far too flaky. Even when he got that 50 in Bristol he was dropped twice. He's o.k to bat at Number 7 and have a quick thrash at the end of an innings, but is incapable of playing the sort of rescue innings that Stokes produced yesterday.

I don't think Denly has done enough in this series to really challenge Moeen. I’d still have Mo in at 7 but I’d have Vince in the side ahead of Stokes. We don’t need Stokes bowling and Vince is a much better bat - but it seems Stokes has to play every waking minute. His stats are so modest. Rob Key said yesterday 2 minutes into play that Wood and Archer would be England’s opening pair. Wood definitely seems to have found consistency in his pace but needs to be taking wickets consistently - his bowling average is tripe. I’d probably go with Archer, Curran, Woakes. Curran looks like a dynamite bowler and if Woakes is fit he has to play. The only other question is Archer or Wood. I don’t think Plunkett will play since Curran is much better. I also like Root at 4, so sometimes they can bring in Buttler instead but they don’t seem to want that. Roy Bairstow Vince Root Morgan Buttler Moeen Curran Rashid Woakes Archer On a flat one promote Morgan and Buttler. 50 overs of bowling plus Root if needed. Opening bowlers, middle bowlers, death bowlers and 2 good spinners. Power from 1-7 with good lower order hitting. I don’t see a single set up better than this except Foakes instead of Vince maybe. I don’t think it matters how England line up - if pitches are flat and balls don’t swing they will walk this World Cup blindfolded. If pitches aren’t perfect and balls move at all, they will crash out in the group stage. This line up just offers a bit more protection against a dodgy surface since there is nobody who can play swing or spin well in the side.

Stokes has bowled just 13 overs in these 4 ODIs.
If he's not in the team as an all rounder then Foakes/Vince should be in the team ahead of him.

He’s not in the team to send down defensive maidens, he’s a wicket-taker pure and simple. Sure, he might leak expensive overs now and again but wickets are the currency I trade in sonny!

Wicket less in 4 ODIs. If it is indeed wickets that you trade in then Ben Stokes is not the answer, sonny! In the last 15 ODIs that he has been called onto bowl he has taken a grand total of 6 wickets. Not exactly what you had in mind, was it? Would you like to respond?

Tests and ODIs are different. In tests Stokes is probably a better bowlers than batsman! His body and action makes him difficult to play if there’s movement in the air. That doesn’t happen in ODIs. Still he only averages in the 30s with the bat in ODIs, that’s pretty bad. Modern day players playing in this England side with these pitches should be ashamed if they average under 50!

Ben Stokes has certainly been a part time bowler of late. I don't know if this is injury related or not.

He always looks like he’s in pain - yet when the opposition hits a single to him, he sprints full pelt, spins and throws the ball in full pelt. He clearly has talent I just think A. England manage him horribly and B. Bristol had a huge effect on him.

I've no idea why he wasn't charged by the CPS, and nor have the Avon and Somerset Police. www.telegraph.co.uk/cricket/2018/08/15/police-furious-alex-hales-let-off-ben-stokes-brawl/"Hales, 29, escaped charges after footage appeared to show the cricketer kicking a Mr Ali as he lay in a gutter. The suggestion that Hales may have broken Ali’s eye-socket formed a key part of Stokes’s defence".

Stokes has always been this kind of person - getting into trouble and stuff. I bet he is permanent thin ice, still, they bowl him into the ground when pitches are flat in tests and I reckon that’s his punishment. Will be a miracle if he plays all 5 Ashes tests. Honestly would sideline him at World Cup, he’s so over rated. His bowling won’t be needed so much in the Ashes either.

I doubt that either Clarke or Kohler Cadmore will now get anywhere near an England shirt after what came out in the Hepburn trial. Clarke especially so.

38/4 recently.

We need to have our premier strike bowlers in the team, those who can be relied on to break a partnership if someone like Shaun Marsh, Michael Bevan or Steve Smith is pootling along nicely. Stokes is a big game player, no valid conclusions can be drawn from a few looseners sent down in a cranberry sauce series against Pakistan or Ireland.

Michael Bevan's last ODI was on 29th February 2004, so I don't think we need to worry about him!
